Cash

Hi All

I saw this in my magazine and wanted to share it as I, for one, am worried that with the use of debit/credit cards, particularly this year, that cash will disappear. I'm just the same as the next person and have been using my plastic a lot but I do think cash if so much safer. I had some bank fraud this year and it was a very worrying time, we never had any problems with our bank account when we paid for everything using cash. I do understand that we can't get away from using cards but I do not want to lose the use of cash completely, how do you give your child pocket money with no cash?

I have signed the petition so am sharing this article just in case any of you are interested.

Stay safe and well.

Alicia :)

I do pay contactless as well Alicia! But this article is right, as when I need to pay for parking off Ivy car park, bummer, I need £1 coins! Annoying 🙄! Don't want cashless society, miss banknotes and change! Especially for certain things! 👍🥰

in reply to Snowdrops_17

It really is isn't it and I feel strongly about this as cash is also much safer. It's a very good petition.

That's a real pain having no change for the car park.🤔

Hi

It's good to have a bit if cash in you, you never know when you might need it!!

Someone nearly managed to commit fraud on me this year. He/she had tried to get credit in my name, luckily this particular bank were vigilant!! Not a nice feeling, I really feel for you.

Love and hugs Lynne xxxx ❤️🤗🌈💜

in reply to

Precisely Lynne and it's safe.

It's a horrible feeling and I'm so glad your bank were quick, my bank weren't brilliant but it's sorted now thank goodness.

Hugs to you.

Yes, it is all those little things that you can’t use a card payment for!

in reply to Smiler53

Totally agree.👍

I feel quite lost if I don't have a bit if cash in my purse when I go out, I don't like doing contact less all the time

in reply to Jennymary

It's good to have cash in your purse and you can keep an eye on what money you've spent, so easy to overspend with cards.

I agree and contactless does not always work. My local café has a minimum for this, so I either have to have a more expensive dish than I want, or add something like cake, nice for me, but bad for nations health.

in reply to SORRELHIPPO

It certainly doesn't and you're right. That's the problem you can't just have a cup of coffee as it's under the £5. Definitely keep the cash I say.

I don't like the idea of this either but i do think that card is eventually going to take over. A few of the parking machines have stopped taking cash here now, instead they have to be paid by card. I certainly don't like this as the amount of times a machine has taken my change without issuing me a ticket, who's to say it isn't going to do the same with the card!

in reply to blackbeauty99

That's what I've been thinking, especially since COVID. When I saw that there was a petition to save the cash I didnt hesitate to sign as the more the merrier, a fair amount of petitions do work.

Oh I certainly agree with you re the car parks. Not getting a receipt and swallowing cash is nad enough but not safe when it's a card.

I prefer to use cash where I can. I know someone who had his identity stolen. The thought of cash disappearing would be awful. 😊👍

in reply to bobbybobb

Same here and I've started to use it again more where I can ie. where cash is being accepted. How frightening to have your identity stolen, I hope everything is ok now. The powers that be are being shortsighted as there will be a lot more fraud if we become a cashless society.

Word of warning, paying contactless to park.

I was fined £50 as I did not have a parking receipt in Oxford, having paid in the machine and seen it registered, but no receipt produced and no staff to speak to.

They are all heart here in the City Council.

I was on Council business so had total reimbursement for all parking so no point in not paying, , had an independent witness, and no chance of appeal.

This is the only fine I have ever had in my life having driven thousands of miles as a professional, and I will never park there again.

Be warned, parking is very expensive, permitted times are not what you would expect, but the park and rides are excellent.

Does your bank show these contactless payments on your Statement, and where they were paid?

It might be possible to reclaim that fine, using your Bank Statement, especially if the time of payment and amount tallies with the time you parked.

Worth trying, anyway.

Cheers, Midori

in reply to Sops

I paid to park behind where I worked once and never got a receipt but had a witness. When I got back to work I quickly wrote a sign and put in the car. I got back and rang the parking firm and he said I'd still get a fine. I got the fine but fortunately I knew someone who was a parking officer for the council. I never heard anymore from the parking company. I've never parked there again.

Phew that was lucky. I have never forgotten this and it is a mental slur, i have never had a speeding ticket and no other fine despite travelling over a thousand miles a month for many years and i was furious. Had been to a very contentious meeting in the next county and returned to the carpark there where my colleague who had given me a lift was parked and she had a flat battery. She called the recovery service, it could not be started so she had to pay over £100 for a new one. When we finally got back to the car park where i had left my car, i drove a jeep, and could see a piece of paper on the windscreen from a distance, and was horrified to see it was a fine

we were encouraged by the local authority to car share even though we lived 30 miles apart.

I was not in a good place mentally at that time, normally i am a fighter but after writing a few letters I gave up and paid, even thought i know i was innocent, think it was returning to an empty house hours late when i just needed a hug!

Have never parked on a City car park again and never will, Their financial loss not mine. Now catch the bus, free with my pass.

Ps they have closed the banks where i live , just the TSB left and that is reduced to part time.

Sopsx

in reply to Sops

It really was, the person helped me a great deal. I can imagine how annoyed you were, I would have been the same, these private companies are a Rip off, I can't believe what they get away with.

Oh you can't car share living that far apart, that's stupid.

Oh I know what it's like when you're not right mentally.

You're the one better off now for sure.

They've removed our local bank but we still have one in the city centre which is around 7 miles away.

I find it easy to get cash as I use the ATM which is inside my bank when I visit our city centre. 😊x

Hi Alicia, Only this morning I saw a media report saying that the Italian government is now actively seeking to push forward a cashless society. (It's an attractive proposition for any government as it could, in one fell swoop, cut down the black economy, by wiping out cash in hand payments for goods and services). It's encouraging to see that this is on 'Which's' radar and that they are taking steps to make sure that we all understand how this could creep up on us. 😊👍

in reply to

Hi Sue

That's a very good point about the black market and of course they wouldn't be able to do that. I'm also glad it's on Which's radar as we are open to a lot more fraud with plastic, particularly after what I've just experienced with fraud.

Midori profile image

I too have signed a petition about it.

I don't know but will have a look, thank you for the advice.sops

in reply to Midori

That's excellent, the more the merrier 😊🌈

I can't believe there can be a cashless society as government needs the cash to keep our economy strong. Just think of the stimulus money that goes out. There has to be money produced to be able to back the economy. I guess if they think this would work they would try it.

in reply to

Agreed. Common sense isn't prevailing at present and that's the problem with the powers that be, they don't use common sense.

You need cash on small market stalls

in reply to Craftyperson

Exactly, it costs the small businesses a lot of money to accept cards. I agree with the list Which has published on how it would be without cash.

Craftyperson profile image
CraftypersonReading Rabbits in reply to

Yes if I started paying for my sat morning paper by card would cost him more than its worth!!

in reply to Craftyperson

Exactly, cash is needed and should stay. Our granddaughters do chores, earn points which end up as cash, can't do that with a card.

Craftyperson profile image
CraftypersonReading Rabbits in reply to

Yes I used to do little chores to get my pocket money, helps you learn got to work for things. I used to have to clean stair sides, banister and brush carpet, remember when just had dinner down steps and painted at sides. I also helped dad in garden as he grew fruit and veg, my job on Sunday morning was shelling the peas and it was one for the pot and one for me!! I'd take them in and my dad would say I'm sure I picked more than this!! Can't beat fresh picked and posted peas. Mmmmm

in reply to Craftyperson

It really does, it's good for children to understand the value if money, can't do that with plastic.

Oh what happy memories. My mum grew all her own veg as well, I was always pinching peas.😉😋

Theyre the best aren't they? So fresh and sweet.

You certainly appreciate money more if earned it.

We used to have to save up to buy something when I got married first time around in 1976 nearly everything was second hand till we saved up to replace it. My mum bought us a fridge no freezer then and his mum bought us a bed.

in reply to Craftyperson

They really are,I love thexway they react when you reward them for being good and doing chores, innocence is bliss.

You really do.

That's the way it was done, we got married 2 years later so it's our 42nd this year. Time flies.

Doesn't it just I can't believe I'm 64 soon!!

Glad your little ones appreciate things I used to be so thrilled if got 50p though it will be much more now I bet.

I got divorced 5 years later so no anniversary for me. Happy anniversary for when yours is.

in reply to Craftyperson

Well that means there's about 2.5 years between us as I was 61 back in April.

They really do appreciate things, they're pretty good girls, they are 4 and 8. I remember thinking I was rich when I found half a crown.

The main thing is you're happy and healthy. Our anniversary is in November. Thank you. 🙏😊

CraftypersonReading Rabbits in reply to

We'll I wouldn't say healthy at the moment but I'm happy. You've got to be!!

You married at similar age to me then I was 19 he was 21 infact it was his 21st birthday I was his present LOL.

But I then met the love of my life 7 years later and we had 25 brilliant years till he died 7 years ago only aged 62.

in reply to Craftyperson

Well done on being happy even though not healthy.

Same here re ages.

So glad you'd found the love of your life but lost him whilst he was still young, what lovely memories you must have.

Thanks we had some wonderful times . We had a touring caravan so went all over the place off every other weekend. Lovely holidays abroad especially Florida and went to a New Years eve ball every year.

We even got to retire to a park home as always wanted even though hadn't retired just made redundant and got chance of a job down here.

in reply to Craftyperson

Aww what such lovely memories to hold on to and what experiences you had.

Ideal, redundancy doesn't have to be bad at all. What area do you live? I'm in the South South West by the coast.🌈😊

Not a very nice thought and i would sign any petition to save cash, but i do feel that society is headed towards a cashless society. It is inevitable the way things are going. probably twenty or so years down the line. A sad reminder of how the world is changing not necessarily for the better.

in reply to Jacksc06

I agree society is heading that way. If there's any petition to sign to keep cash then I'll sign it. Fraud is rife and cash is safer.

Sad times.😔

Greetings: I need to find that petition, and sign it. Cash always needs to be an option :) . How do I acknowledge, and tip someone who has gone above, and beyond in helping me, when I can't use a credit card :| . I am grateful for my credit/debit cards , but cash has to always still be an option :) . Sign the petition people if you agree.

Totally agree with you, it does need to be an option and it's far safer with all the online fraud. I use plastic but also use cash.

The link to the petition is in the left hand photo at the bottom, just type the web address and the petition will appear.

Thank you and agree, the more that sign the better.👍🙏🌈
