I had a great day out yesterday with my husband for his birthday. Last year he'd opted for a day out in London and we spent a heat-laden day up and down Oxford Street and Covent garden, and on and off the Tube.
Such a thing was unthinkable this year and we headed off into the adjacent New Forest by car, stopping at Lepe Beach and the lovely little town of Lymington. Then a nice meandering journey back via Beaulieu. It was lovely to be among so much greenery and on an ozone laden beach in a really brisk wind. It blew the cobwebs away
Arriving back in town we had to stop for fuel and at one point found ourselves waiting at a red light with a full-on view of the container terminal and the massive cranes which move them around, in Southampton Port. (It's the second busiest container port in UK, after Felixstowe.)
Quite a contrast with the greenery and peace we'd enjoyed for a few hours, but I can see a different sort of beauty in a cityscape. That view of the docks represents a power house, with thousands of containers of goods entering and exiting the UK, and it's exciting in its own way.
Are you a town mouse, or a country mouse? I think I like to be both!
