Another weapon....

..... But of a good kind!

This morning's BBC news online and at its website is of a new and quite powerful drug to help with the breathing difficulties encountered in severe cases of covid-19.

The new drug, as yet unnamed, and being researched in my home city of Southampton has found in early trials that it helps in 79% of cases. That's a big number! And though it won't win the covid-19 war, it's a significant weapon which will help in the fight.

It has to be given via a nebuliser, directly into the lungs and uses a protein called interferon beta which provokes an immune response in the body to the virus.

So, it's good to know that every day we are coming closer to tame this virus, even if we can't ever eliminate it. And shows that, eventually, just like influenza, we will find ways of living with it, much more safely!

Hi Sue

That's excellent news and an easy way to deliver the drug as well. As you say, 79% is a big number.

They are finding out so much about the virus now and will find out even more as time goes on.

Have a lovely afternoon.

Alicia😊

That is fantastic news Sue and will surly make a significant difference to the outcome of many. It's so good to hear news like this as we are socialising more, when we know the virus is still at large. We all must remember to continue to stay safe. 😊🌸🌼

That's good news! I am so pleased to hear some good things to give me a sense of balance. And of course there is now apparent certainty that another widespread drug (whose name escapes me, but that we already had in our arsenal, so to speak) is definitely helping in the treatment of patients.

I am still focusing on the not catching of the thing, but that is much harder to control, isn't it? Because we can control ourselves but not the behaviour of others who may not be as careful as we are. So this is just what I wanted for a little on the upside of this pandemic that has changed the way we live our lives so fundamentally.

In a few years, I hope we will all look back at the ways we fumble around trying to handle this as best we can, and know that there are several things available to prevent most cases and to treat the others which do occur. But for now, these bits of good news make quite a difference.

Thank you for sharing, Callendersgal. 👏👏👏

More good news! Perhaps I can now start to relax the ban I've placed on listening to the news more than once a day, if we've got several bits of good news coming through. Thank you, Jerry! 👏

I saw that on the news this morning and yes its a step forward in the right direction!

Hi

Thank you for sharing ,Sue. It's great to have a bit of good news for a change. I am being very careful, my Dr said I can go a bit further but definitely not in shops! I can't wait to get back to some sort of normality, though!! Thank you for sharing this good news with us. Lots of love Lynne xxxx ❤️💜

I’m so pleased you’ve been allowed a tiny bit more freedom Lynne and I know you’ll be really careful. It really is good to hear something a bit positive. It’s a small study so far but if the results continue as well as they started, it’ll be a massive help in the fight! Take care and big hugs xxx👍🙏🌈⭐️

Aww, thank you. Our son who lives with his girlfriend is back in work on the 1st August. He didn't get a letter until April even though he has Crohn's. Then work said he's being furloughed until end of July . He doesn't worry but I do as I do our other son who has bowel issues. Hubby said he is the only normal one 😂 xxxx

I'm OK in myself thanks for asking and still on the case with job hunting as I can control my own behaviour by showing willing and applying for jobs although covid and it's economic impact is one of those things that's beyond my control but what I do control is showing willing and trying my best in hunting for jobs.

Well done to you xxxx
