My son’s just come home after being in lockdown with his girlfriend and I suddenly had a lightbulb moment with regard to his weight gain. I don’t know why it hadn’t occurred to me before but you’ve recently helped both my daughter and me with interpretations of our blood test results. I have Hashimoto’s and my daughter is looking as though she’s headed for hypothyroidism
I’ve been taking my son’s temperature each morning after having started reading Dr Broda Barnes’ book and it’s fascinating and enlightening but I’m not sure what tests son should ask for when doctor calls tomorrow. His temperature is persistently 35.7 or lower and as I understand it, this is highly indicative of hypothyroidism
I know he should ask for D3, ferritin, folate and B12 but what specific iron and thyroid tests will help you get a picture of what’s going on with him
Would really appreciate a list of what’s crucial. He goes away next week for 18 months to start his pilot training and he’s going to need his wits about him. He doesn’t seem all that sharp at present
Thanks for reading, I’d really appreciate any help you can offer

As regards the Tests, that your Son needs, I'm not too sure.... Thyroid Certainly. What's concerning me is that, you say, your Son is 'out of salts' (not that sharp) but he is going away- for Pilot Training!
Sorry but 'that' is Riniging a few Alarm Bells, with me.... Pilots need to be 'Pin Point' Sharp, could you maybe Persuade him to Pospone this, at least, until he feels Better?
I DON'T mean to be a 'Kiljoy/ Doom Bringer and I'm, absolutely sure, that your Son Will make an excellent Pilot....... Just maybe NOT quite 'yet'. Maybe Next year, when it might be safer anyway- COVID and all that, just a 'thought'.
Thank you for your reply and don’t worry, we’ve had the conversation. He just thinks he’s still recovering from covid and I would be inclined to agree if it weren’t for the weight-gain, which he explains is because his girlfriend is an excellent baker and over the last three months he’s eaten a lot of pies!
All very plausible but let’s see what the the blood tests reveal and take it from there
I can attest to that! In my defence though, I took up the couch to 5k challenge and at 61 years old, although my two year old grandson can run faster the me (no, I’m not joking) I’ve actually done it. At first my knees hurt, my right foot hurt, my shoulders hurt and I wondered whether I was doing more harm than good. After two weeks the knees and shoulders are absolutely over it. The right foot/ankle is problematic but I’m working on it
The mental challenge was more challenging than the physical because I’ve always hated running and even after all these weeks, I still hate it but boy do I feel good about myself for overcoming my apathy and laziness
I have a screwed up right knee, and the left is following on. I walk very slowly with a rollator, and can't get far due to Fibro fatigue. I also have the start of Arthritis and carpal Tunnel, and my legs swell almost to my knees! I also only have sight in one eye. I'm old (72), that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it!
