Beautiful. What a lesson to all. Thank you so much for sharing this. It’s the last thing I shall read before bed. A wonderful way to end my day. Be well. 🌷
Thank you Ali, this poem certainly gets my memory bank into overdrive. In my very full life I have met so many people that have left their mark on me, mostly happily, amazing people.
I will mention just three, if l may, the first was Mrs Margaret Le Riche, my head teacher in Jinja, Uganda, EA, this was in the early 1950s. She not only taught me my normal school lessons, she taught me so very much more about life, nature, people, she was an exceptionally kind person, always. Leaving Jinja l kept in contact with her for almost thirty years, when she unfortunately disappeared off my radar screen.
The second person was Mr Leo Aaron's the American photographer whom l worked for in Chelsea, London in the early 1960s. He was an exceptionally good photographer and businessman and he taught me to always appreciate the good things in life, never to accept second best and to be kind to fellow humans.
The third person is my very dearest wife who l married in 1986, we have two amazing children both loving and caring, our son, now living in Hong Kong, whom we all miss him terribly, our daughter lives close to us so we normally see her quite often with her beautiful daughter. Sadly in October 1999 l was ‘struck down’ with arthritis and have had to have all my major joints replaced plus other operations, sixteen in total. The one person who has taught me more about love, kindness and happiness is my most wonderful wife who has definitely stood by me through thick and thin.
I also feel that we can all learn a lot from our fellow members of Healthunlocked, all bravely showing so much courage in their difficult lives.
What a lovely response. I’m glad my post got you reminiscing about the important people in your life that we should never forget.
That’s a lot of operations and health problems to have to overcome and in a marriage these things either push you apart or bring you closer together so I’m pleased you feel you have had such great support from your wife. It must be so difficult for people who don’t feel supported.
I agree there is so much to learn from the fellow members of Healthunlocked and those people who have such a positive attitude whilst suffering such adversity is admirable.
WOW, is that 'Yours' or did you just Find It somewhere?
I met a girl, on a train, some years ago now- I can't remember which train, where I was going, or anything. The girl however, I will never forget, She was of fairly Normal build, neither fat nor thin, unremarkable in height, indeed not noticeably large/ small in any 'department'.
What made this otherwise unremarkable girl, 'stand out', were her Many, Many Piercings and Tattoos- in her Ears, Nose, through her Lips, Tongue, some in her Neck. There were Tattoos on her Face, Neck, Hands, Feet and some, partly visible, on her Arms and Legs. To me, she appeared a 'Slut'- prejudice had, set in, I'm afraid.
I can't remember how, but somehow, I got 'Talking', to this girl..... What a lovely, warm hearted, intelligent girl she was! She was on her way, to see her, Grandmother- who had been in Hospital. Her appearance, which I asked about it, was because of a 'Music Following' of some sort.... Apparently the Musicians 'All had Tattoos and Stuff'. (The Girl did explain 'everything').
So yes, MY Prejudices were 'Challenged', and I learned a Lot, from that Lovely girl. I wish that I had asked her, for her 'contact details' now, but it didn't seem the right time somehow. I certainly Learned a Valuable 'life lesson', from this Girl, and no mistake. A Lesson, for us all perhaps.
I still 'Remember' her, in my Prayers- Thank you Tattooed Girl.
Well that's a lovely story and I think most of us can say we have decided what someone is like just by looking at them. As you get older you appreciate more that these assumptions are normally non founded.
I wish I could take credit for the poem but I found it. It's great isnt it.
I really live my life trying to help people who are in need. My mom raised me, and my siblings to treat all people with respect, and to treat all people the same way you would want to be treated. This poem did bring me to tears, as I am remembering the many homeless people who can't self isolate, or have to go to shelters that are dangerous for them to be in.
