Tapering post knee replacement

I had a total knee replacement 3 weeks ago. Very painful, but persevering with the exercises and so far, so good. I take 4.5 mg Prednisilone, down from 15mg in June 2023. I have paused tapering after the surgery and would like advice on when to resume.

Thank you for your advice.

When I had my hip replaced I started reduction again when I was able to drive my car after six weeks. It is when you feel generally OK again after the op.

Thank you. Other than feeling shaky, I feel OK. I think 6 weeks will be a good time.

Six weeks you feel as if you are entering the world again, so a good time I feel to start!

I'd wait until you have got all clear from surgeon.. and even longer if you still feel a bit 'wobbly'.

Having been there, knees can be more problematic than other replacements - so no rush... adrenals may also be struggling a bit as well.. so mind out for those.

'...all clear from surgeon ' My thoughts too, DL. Knees are much more painful and having to hold or move them in the way we have to do while driving puts undue stress on the joint and can increase the pain, especially if you have a standard car ( not common here in Canada ) . Wait awhile .

Thank you. I did wonder if wobbliness was my adrenals struggling a bit. I think I'll take my time and get plenty of rest.

I recently had a TKR and at the time was on 5.0 mg . I decided not to taper for about 6 weeks as I had enough issues with the knee. This strategy seemed to work for me . I am now 3 months later down to 4 mg . In summary suggest you don’t rush the reduction .

Thank you. I think I'll take everyone's advice and leave it at least six weeks.
