No Colonoscopy

After one attack of diverticulitis after another since I got below 4mg prednisone, with lots of PMR flares, and two rounds of antibiotics, the idea that this is inflammatory and not infectious has occurred to us, my doctor and my doctor husband. Reason is I had instant relief, while taking Augmentin, by increasing from 2.5 to 7.5 pred for three days.

I could not get it cleared up in time for the colonoscopy next week so they cancelled it as too high risk. Eight weeks after a flare is required.

Last CRP Nov 1 was 30, so something is going on, highest yet.

So I'm going back up to 5mg indefinitely. 2.5 I rushed and it isn't enough.

The other factor is that 30% of PMR patients have subclinical GCA, often those who flare a lot while tapering., which I do. I've had left jaw pain, ear pain and a tender scalp now and then, even one quick shade in my left eye that never recurred, it comes and goes. My father had PMR and an aortic aneurism, the dates I totally forget but the PMR was first. His lasted 18 months.

I have never had the slightest guidance with this PMR, except for my husband. My new doc is trying, totally accepts our diagnosis. I'm almost at 2 years since I slowly started steroids, not knowing what it was but needing to travel alone for 10 days.

I'm not terrified of prednisone at all, beats having a stroke or aneurysm.

So that's the latest. Maybe I can get my life back.
