Update on CRP and ESR results

Hi everyone wishing you all a Happy New Year and i hope you all had a lovely time. After my previous post regarding my mums raised ESR and CRP she has had her bloods rechecked on Monday at our doctors request and we have just had results back. Her CRP has went down from 18 to 12 but her ESR has risen from 19 to 25. The receptionist said results were normal but I always ask for numbers as I like to keep a record of them and I wasnt happy to see her ESR is still rising especially as the normal for her is around 9.

Should we get bloods redone next week again? Our own gp is on holiday till Monday but receptionist has said she will get him to give me a call on his return.

We are still on 7mg pred and i dont want to reduce to 6 and 1/2mg incase there is an underlying cause and at moment she seems to be feeling okay so no visible signs of anything wrong.

Should I be worried about this increase or do symptoms still trump blood results?

I don't want her worrying unnecessarily

but she always asks me what her numbers are and will no doubt panic if she realises they have risen again.

One thing she is due her vitamin b12 jag next week could that have anything to do with increasevin ESR.

Apologies for long post and thank.you for your neverending patience.

In "normal range" the ESR may be - but it is rising and HER normal is notably lower. However - with no symptoms I don't think I would worry unduly until you have talked to her GP.

However - in view of your last question, this is interesting! Bear in mind too that aging is also associated with chronic inflammation.

And it would be interesting to know if it falls again after the injection - and rises before the next one.

I agree with PMRPro. If your mother is feeling OK, just see how it goes. My ESR and CRP are horrendously high, even the doctors sometimes panic, but if your mother feels OK and her doctor is happy, that should be good news.

I will see what dr says on Monday but as I said to pmrpro she is looking and feeling good just now so rise seems strange.I probably worry about it more than her as up till now her CRP has been 5 or under and her ESR is usually 9.

Anything can make The inflammation markers rise even a cold. In my case they have never discovered why they are so high. My CRP is normally around 30 and has gone over 100 in the past. After I had a new hip it went up to 412. I felt fine. They have done lots of tests and decided it is just me!
