Things just got worse!!!!

As is I wasn't in enough pain .I tripped in my granddaughters apt hall on Friday.Went down on my knees then stomach.I was about to smash my face on a corner of a doorway so turned my body to avoid it.My shoulder took the brunt of the fall.Obviously the rest of me was hurt as well.I called for a Dr.appt but got a nurse practitioner who was no help to me.Diagnosed me as having inflammation and handed me Tylenol 2s.My question is whether this disease has flared right from the beginning? Went up to 10 mg and felt a bit better before the fall.No one to guide me thru this.My reumy is away and Dr only in two days a week

How much codeine is in a Tylenol2? I know the acetaminophen content is the same as regular, not extra strength, so you should be safe to take a dose of two tablets if that doesn't up the codeine too much. Tylenol3 is 30 mg codeine, and I cut the leftovers from my broken wrist in half for a headache. They worked a treat for the wrist which was painful enough to disturb sleep. I don't think acetaminophen is anti-inflammatory but everyone seems afraid of aspirin these days.

I do know that a fall shakes everything up. I hurt all over, not just the broken wrist, because my entire body, like yours, was jarred by the impact. By then off pred so can't speak to that, but it did take a few days to get past that stage, and I didn't need the generic acetaminophen/codeine for too long - hence having leftovers I can use for bad headaches, probably will last for years.

It also rather surprised me how shaken I was by the accident. It's important to take your time for recovery, don't expect too much too soon. (Gentle hug)

You know, I discovered a new way to sleep, more or less sitting up , back supported, with my legs up, pillow under my knees and my head well supported and cradled by a soft pillow, when I was protecting my injured wing, and I've stayed like that because I'm now sleeping better than I have for years! Perhaps because pressure is taken off wonky arthritic joints?

Tylenol 2 had 15 mg.Surprising I slept all night but woke up at 6 with the pain.Sounds like you took a really bad fall too .My left ribs are sore today.I think I sprained my ankle too.I have a new fear of falling again. So easy to go down!!

If that ankle gets worse, you probably should get it x-rayed. Along with my broken radius apparently there was also an insignifiant chip in the ulna, which no one seemed to think would be a problem. But I don't walk on my arms! Possibly even a similar minor thing in the ankle or foot would need more care.

On the other hand these things do tend to get worse before they get better as the swelling and inflammation take a while to settle, so hopefully that's all it is.

Speaking of falling, I'd recently taken up Nordic walking again and when I went to pick them up this morning I discovered they are missing. I must have left them somewhere a few days ago. So far no one has seen them. Have to check a couple more places, and then maybe just buy new ones. I got these when I first started pred so probably they don't owe me anything although I haven't used them much since I hurt my knees way back in 2020. Sigh.

Anyway, I hope you are soon on the mend. I mentioned the poles because although so far I haven't needed them for balance issues I know people who do use them for that purpose. They have the additional benefit of helping with posture and keeping upper body bones and muscles strong!

Ooh sounds very sore and a right shock. Hope you feel better, keep an eye in case you need an xray.

Are you sure you haven't damaged anything in the fall? Did the nurse do a full examination to assess the damage?

Unfortunately, the muscular effects of falls like that can feel awful but there isn't much to do other than pain relief and keep moving gently so you don't stiffen up too much.

The nurse just checked me for movement.I guess time will tell.Sad how times have changed in healthcare.

You would probably know by now if something serious has happened. Certainly when I fell although several points hurt (other hand, knees) and the broken wrist didn't at once hurt more, I knew something serious had happened to that wrist and immediately made sure to immobilise it as well as possible. However best to get yourself checked if the post trauma pain and stiffness doesn't start to improve in a few days, or if you find the pain concentrated in a particular place. I think my over all pain worsened for a couple of days as the various shaken up limbs did whatever they do when recovering, but the most severe pain, which had a different quality, was definitely in the broken wrist. While waiting at the ER I was quietly weeping the whole time because of the pain. It was one of the worst experiences of my life.

It was a very bad experience for me too.I already hurt my back 3 weeks prior when I rammed my cart into the glass door when it didn't open fully. At grocery store.Lets hope it's the last of falls for us💖

Oh, Hunter134, so sorry and sending hugs from Indiana. My goodness! Is there no way you can secure the appropriate medication? A&E? 💞🥹
