Facing the Day

When physical work outside looms large,

is it the pain or depression in charge.

When weather is bad and you're ever so queasy,

stirring ones loins is never so easy.

However the same can never be said,

even when snug in a nice warm bed.

When the weather is sunny in anyone's book

You have to get up and go take a look.

Sometimes it's hard for whatever you think

Our bodies are often just out of sync.

Others expect and our mind says to go,

but the truth is much harder as you here all know.

So sometimes we use this excuse when we're lazy.

We have to be honest or else we'd go crazy.

We've struggled for years to find some surcease,

that we feel justified in taking our ease.

The truth is much harder as most of us know.

Every new morning we wake ready to go.

Each day is quite different,we never can tell,

If today is a blessing or a new taste of hell.

Without prednisone that much needed pill,

we'd all be much worse off and feeling quite ill.

So gird up your loins to face a new day.

Today you'll feel great; though you never can say.

I'd be wrong not to mention the downside of this.

The loss of strong muscle is hard to dismiss.

The fragile thin skin so easy to bruise.

The trip we all take is no luxury cruise.

All of us strive to be free from this fetter.

We try every day and hope to get better.

The harder we try we all risk a flare.

There's never a gain without a big dare.

So don't be depressed however you feel.

Every new day there is hope and it's real.

Smile and get ready, you never can tell.

Maybe today is the last of your Hell.

Cycli, where do they all come from.

I really can relate to this one. Well done

Truthfully I don't know Koalajane. I've always had a way with words. Some say too much!!!! I just sit and somehow the words flow. I have an idea and write the first line however it comes. Then I look at the end and see if there's a rhyme. If not I keep the sense and write another line with a rhyme potential. The rest flows from the theme and how I feel. Simple really. Have a go.

There was a reply from Twopies which said she could have written this. My reply is that this is a real compliment. This disease makes us all feel this way. For some reason this was deleted. I've no idea why.

Thanks 123-go. Read your bio. I also have that tingling and numbness. Down to 1.5mg and also on Leflunomide 10mg daily. Told to keep on this when I zero for 3 months. I wonder if the tingling and numbness is down to leflunomide.

I have mentioned the tingling toes several times and nobody I’ve seen appears to see it as a problem. As it hasn’t got any worse over the years I have chosen to ignore it. I finished pred in January this year and was told that I’ll be staying on 10mg leflunomide for ‘a while yet’.

cycli profile image
cycli in reply to123-go

I've raised this also and I don't think they think it's an issue. If they had it I bet they would think differently. It's a nuisance. It feels like walking on sponges.

When it is in a patient on leflunomide they jolly well SHOULD be listening. Someone said recently their rheumy told them it wasn;t the LEF. I beg your pardon??????

cycli profile image
cycli in reply toPMRpro

Thanks PMRpro. It's not that debilitating but it is a bl**dy nuisance. If the lef. is helping me reduce then I suppose it's worth it.

Ooh! That does sound horrible. I notice it mostly when I’m sitting . Couple of oddbods aren’t we?

(Apologies to everyone…..couldn’t resist.)

Tingling in the Toes

Tingling in the toes that adds to our woes -

What can it be due to? Nobody knows (should have asked our own guro - yes PMRpro!)

It will be a relief when it finally goes

So let’s hope this strange happening is soon brought to a close.

cycli in reply to123-go

why are you still on leflunomide 123-go? My rheumy only wants me on it for 3 months after I stop taking pred. You should have been off it by that measure in May.

I have an aortic aneurysm. PMR is in remission.

I’d say this is your best work yet, cycli. It’s so depressingly correct. I still find the hardest part of PMR to be the inability to plan ahead and to achieve my plans . Keep the poetry coming, it’s a bit of light relief for us all.

thank you so much for this cycli. So good to be reminded that so many of us are fighting the exact same battle (and that we will get there in the end). More love to you xxxxx

cycli in reply toLimpylissy

It's very hard to take Limpylissy. Given where I started from I found it almost impossible to accept what I had become. In truth I still find it hard but I remain positive despite everything. you are still holding a job and are younger than me so it comes very hard for you. There is very good advice on this forum so please take advantage of it.
