I’m Day 3 of having Covid (got it from hubby who’s today thankfully tested negative 😃)
I’m not too bad now congestion wise, just feeling absolutely flawed & little appetite, plus napping a lot.
I have a sensitive skin at the best of times, but today I’ve developed a really bad itchy/hives type skin- which apparently is a symptom of this latest Covid variant. And funnily enough hubby has flat blotches on his torso & thighs, which again is outlined in the list of possible symptoms.
Has anyone else experienced this skin issue?
I just keep applying cold compresses
I’m still on 2.5 mg of Pred.

Hello Doroflora. Yes, I had Covid July 7 - 18/24 and my only problems were nausea and this terrible rash (on my bum). I used Gold Bond Anti-Itch cream, not that it helped. Did discuss this with my Dr. yesterday and showed him pics, and he said there is nothing they can give for viruses. When I tested negative it went away. Just have to be patient. Good luck.
I was given antivirals both times that I had covid. On the first occasion, he got the thing 3 days before me. I lost it 3 days before he did. On the second, we caught it together. I got rid 5 days before him.
I remember this from the earlier variants that looked like a stencil of a paper doily. I’ve had Covid a number of times (sadly) and never had a rash. I also remember “viral rashes” especially in children way before Covid was a thing which could be blotchy or like sprinkles.
Hi SnazzyD. Well I’ve read that researchers are currently seeking to find the cause of the rash. So someone hopefully won’t have this problem in the future
That’s interesting. I developed a slight rash but real itches on arms, back, stomach and genital area after the latest COVID bout. GP mystified but gave cream and antihistamine tablets . The latter seems to work . However I am reluctant to take more medication. Hopefully it will go if it’s own accord at some point.
The odd thing is, when I itch it seems to go bollistic, but it mostly happens when my body temperature is at its highest, like when I’m in bed or in the evenings when I’m chilling.
Clothing labels/stitching, and some bedding affects it too. And yes, I’ve bought new bedding….and cut labels out of clothes.
But on the scale of things…and hopefully when I get a negative Covid test it might dissipate…
The same here re heat and itching.. Unfortunately it has been a while since I had Covid ie six weeks. May be a little improved recently but very strange. Fingers crossed yours will dissipate quickly
About 8 weeks before I was diagnosed with PMR last year ( bearing in mind I had classic PMR symptoms for the previous 5 months) I went to bed and had an itch on my arm.
Within 30 mins I started to itch all over.
I got up, went to the bathroom, turned on the light & I was covered in hives. I panicked as this had never happened before. I was itching like mad.
I took a cool shower & a antihistamine.
Within 20 mins, the itching stopped & I went back to bed.
In the morning, everything had gone, apart from the PMR symptoms.
I'm not sure if the hives are a part of the autoimmune 'thing'??
Be interesting to see if anyone else with PMR has had the same issue?🤔
Apart from contacting the GP about itching when I’d been on Pred for 18 months, we finally put it down to our recent house move and different minerals in the water at our new house (the doc reckoned).
I do have a lot of times when it flares up any time, but I find that clothing labels/stitching has an effect, and the itching gets worse when my body gets warm.
Once the Covid virus has done one and we’ve had our holiday to Rhodes in a couple of weeks, then I’ll speak to the doc about whether it could actually be the Pred. Who knows….
All stretching out rather later than usually - they are saying no end in sight! Even my village, halfway up a mountain in the north, is 34C in the afternoons. And sun ...
