Covid-19 Paxlovid and Prednisone

A warm and grateful hello to you all! I so appreciate hearing thoughts and stories about your health and the struggles that PMR creates in our lives. I’m hoping to once again be supported by the sharing of your experience. After just tapering my dosage of Prednisone down to 1mg, I woke up with a very sore throat and tested positive for Covid-19! Apparently I have caught the surging wave that is hitting our country right now. USA! I’m on day 8 and feeling much better, but symptoms are still present. On day 2 I upped my dosage to the Covid protocol for long term prednisone as I’ve been on it for several years. On day 4 I started Paxlovid and since then began tapering the Covid protocol dosage. I have 2 more days of Paxlovid and I’m wondering what others experiences have been with Prednisone Paxlovid and Covid recovery? Thankful for your kind responses!

Hard luck - sorry can't really help as I haven't knowingly had Covid yet but wanted to say get well soon!!

I found that Paxlovid stopped the Covid getting any worse, but I didn't notice that it made it feel any better. It I've had it twice now, and it was the same both times, though the second infection seemed worse than the first. It took about 19 days to test negative again and the cough took longer to go. The worst thing about the Paxlovid was the horrible metallic taste it caused. Get well soon!

Thank you🙏 Yes I’m experiencing similar- symptoms aren’t getting worse which gives me peace of mind! But the metal mouth is bad, thankfully only one more day!

For maximum effect Paxlovid antiviral should be administered within 5 or 6 days when the virus is replicating. I’ve just had Covid and hospitalised but they declined Paxlovid.

I had Covid 2 1/2 years ago and was put on Paxlovid it worked right away and I did sick day protocol for my prednisone. I got better and tested negative for Covid unfortunately I was part of the 1% that got Paxlovid Covid rebound and a week later had Covid again which was much milder. It never affected my pmr. I am now at 2 mg prednisone after a couple of flares using the DSNS taper now. Good luck

Thank you and I appreciate you sharing your experience with me. The rebound also apparently occurs in a small percentage of people that had Covid and didn’t take Paxlovid. I’m going to expect to be a Covid-19 rebounder and thank my lucky stars if not! Yay for 2mg!
