Not sure what’s going on, I had blood tests because of headaches and temple pain but I’ve just had a call from rheumatologist now making an urgent appointment for this Friday and wanting me to increase prednisone from 10mg back up to 15 until I see him, very strange.

It sounds like you have a raised ESR and/or CRP. Do you feel OK? They can get raised if you have a cold or something else. Mine are permanently raised for no apparent reason.

No, since they were reduced down from 20 to 15 then to 10 in fortnightly intervals I’ve had extreme headaches and felt a heavy feeling in my head, my ankle has been swelling and in general I just feel like I have a bad cold, run down.

What does the doctor say? Are they being helpful?

I think he’s contacted rheumatologist but not sure

Hope so, good luck.

Don’t know for sure, but would guess you have raised markers hence the reason for increasing Pred. Sounds as if Rheumy is hedging his bets -so see what he says tomorrow.

But bloods really need to be double checked -they can be raised for many reasons -not just PMR.

Let us know what his opinion/plan of action is please.

I will, it’s all very strange as he was happy to keep me on 10 until June and now this.

But did you have headaches at that time? Things change ...

The headaches started when I was reduced to 15 and I’m still having them unfortunately.

As PMRpro has said ‘things change’ … and although you had the headaches at 15mg as we know it can take some time before the bloods reflect that… which is why we always say symptoms rule!

I’m trying not to worry but it’s hard when this pain starts. I only have t wait till Friday to find out, they changed it from 12 to 10:15 so they’ve had to do some juggling around.
