Some of you may remember that I wrote a post recently about feeling stressed before doing my first "solo" cruise. Well, I'm so pleased to report that I had a wonderful time! I increased my dose from 8mg to 10mg the day before I went and returned to 8mg two days after I returned - and so far no problems. I was so fortunate to share a table for evening dining with 5 lovely ladies who made my cruise so special. I also found that, when I chose to spend time on my own, there were always people around to chat with if I then decided I would like company. As I said before, cruising from Southampton is VERY civilised and ideal for people like ourselves who haven't the strength and energy which we once had. So, for anyone having concerns about cruising on your own, I would say "go for it"!!

I set up a WhatsApp group while we were still on the ship and I’m already getting messages from my lovely companions, saying they want to do it again - I’d best start saving !!!
The proof of the pudding lies in my next attempt to reduce. I won’t be doing that for at least a couple of weeks and then only to 7.5mgs so I hope it goes ok. From what I’ve read on here, I’m now approaching the time where I have to be extra careful because of the dreaded adrenal glands 🙁. Keep your fingers crossed for me please.
It a safe way to make new like minded friends & the opportunity to go again. Which Cruise Line did you sail with, as that would be helpful for anyone else considering going Solo.
I’m studying the Website’s & looking at Cruises for a little trip out of Southampton! 🚢
I sailed on P&O Arcadia - an Adult Only ship. My late husband and I cruised a lot with both P&O and Cunard and if anyone wants a leisurely holiday, both of these cruise lines would be good. Your choice of cruise line really depends on the type of holiday you want so it's best to research your options first. And cruising from a UK port is far easier than a fly- cruise. If anyone would like to PM me, I'd be glad to help.
Thought it might be, l noticed how well they looked after Solo Travellers with many activities & Cunard have the Dance Hosts too which is nice for people who like to dance.
Still thinking about a cruise this year as it’ll be in School Holidays as we’re having Charlotte for 2 days a week until the kiddies break up, so we’ll wait & see.
How wonderful, yes, my son was amazed at how easy and relaxed Southampton was for his first cruise......one day, I will go when time is right, hopefully next year....my sister worries she won't cope with all the passengers, but son said it 'a very bigbeast!
It's even better if you can get a cabin with a balcony, so you have a little "outside" to yourself. We often have breakfast and lunch delivered to the cabin so we have some quiet time.
I can assure you that you needn't be aware of lots of passengers. I much prefer the smaller ships and always have a balcony cabin - sitting on your own on the balcony, it's easy to think you're the only person on the ship, with just the sound of the sea. Magic !!
That's a hard one because I live only about an hour from Southampton and don't need to stay overnight. It sounds like you are sailing with Cunard - probably Queen Mary 2 - so they would know what and where it would be good to stay. Enjoy the experience!!
