Well this happened Tuesday morning. The two bottles fell off the rollator seat and one, although plastic) cut the skin through to the shin. The skin flap is intact. Immediately started to cry. It didn't hurt at all. I was thinking they would postpone my surgery which is tomorrow morning. Immediately called surgical booking. Finally got the person to whom I was supposed to speak originally. She contacted the surgeon who said he was willing to still do the surgery, as long as it was not infected. I said that it happened only 10 mins earlier. So I cleaned it with saline, dressed it with a huge plaster. Last evening changed the dressing and applied a little Polysporin.
They will be checking it tomorrow morning. MY concern is the autoimmune response to this ruddy cut and also to the surgery (which is done by injection of cement into the vertebrae.) Even my daughter, who has been with me all through this, doesn't seem to get it. i.e. "I'm obsessing." Now I will admit I was beside myself, but after 3 months on the bed, the thought of postponing sent me into orbit. Am I wrong?

If you can get a surgeon to sort your leg out that will be fantastic. What does “injection of cement into the vertebrae” mean? Are you talking about a spinal? I had a nasty cut when I fainted in the shower after my hip op with a cut down to the bone, it was actually sorted out under a general.
No m'dear. I have a fractured vertebrae and a crushed vertebrae upper mid spine. They inject a cement-like substance into each of the affected vertebrae which is supposed to rebuild them. It is done with needles, no cutting. They give you sedation and local freezing, rather than knocking you out. The nurse will be checking the cut tomorrow. I'm not going for the cut, but to have my spinal fractures fixed.
Thanks Pro. I've read this and I think you shared it with me previously. Informative and most of which the surgeon had told me when he called. Now I'm pretty sure I want a new dexascan. Not that I've heard anything from my Rheumy. Perhaps my Neurologist can arrange it. Food for thought.
Oh i feel your panic. After months on my bed waiting for my back surgery i got a kidney infection the week before, so the thoughts of it being cancelled was horrible. Those last few days, hoping nothing will go wrong to have to postpone. Hopefully all will be ok for you. Best of luck!!
I think they will do the surgery, that damaged skin area is small. Surgeries take time to schedule and organize, they wont want to stop for this is what I think.
Oh Missus835! I would be thinking I had summoned this with my trepidation. It looks nasty and painful but your procedure will be likely to go ahead. I think you will be past minding so much and just want it over with. I hope that is a fantastic success. Good luck! 🍀
Yes SJ. Just want it done. It's not painful at all. Skin is so thin right there on the shin. Doesn't take much but I'd been careful not to cut or scratch myself. I swear the ghost pushed those bottles. Thanks!
Well you didn't need this this to happen, did you? Thankfully you have kept it clean and it's probably looking worse than it is, the skin is so close to bone in that part of the body. Hope your next communication is to tell us that all has gone swimmingly with the spine procedure (not even going to try to spell it)! 🍀💗
No I did not Heron. A complete accident. I tried to catch the bottle and of course strained a back muscle. It bit me anyway. Didn't feel a thing. I will report back with good news tomorrow afternoon. Thanks m'dear.🌹
