I have cataract surgery scheduled for next Wednesday 1st February for both eyes. It is being done privately at a hospital nearby and the opthalmic surgeon is very experienced and has a very good reputation. I have GCA and am currently taking 35 mg of prednisolone daily. The surgeon knows this and does not think it a matter of concern but I am finding that even small cuts are not healing well and am worried that something similar might happen with the surgery. I am not sure what my options are at this stage. I have not found any evidence of this kind of surgery on high doses of pred. Any advice or similar experience would be welcome.

Cataract surgery imminent
The fact the surgeon is not overly concerned is comforting. They have a tendency to cut and run if they don't fancy a risk!!!
I have just discovered it is being done by ultrasound and no incisions! Reassuring I guess but am not sure how they do it.
I had one eye at a time done. If you can get help with eye drops for a while, since you are having both done at the same time, might make things easier.
I had one cataract removed last month, the surgeon told me not to taper as the anti inflammatory affects of the pred would help with healing. I'm on 5mg at the moment. I had no problems at all, not even soreness, and am due to have the next one removed next week, and I can't wait, the joy of clear sight is wonderful.
I had both eyes done at the same time in 2021 with no problems at all. My son drove me home, it was like being in a thick fog! As the evening wore on it started to be a bit clearer and the following morning my vision was almost completely clear. I still keep trying to take my glasses off though when I have a shower😂
wow I have my right eye done next month and down to 5mg preds but have a phobia with eyes and belly buttons 😱😱 not looking forward to have it done but have to , good luck with yours 🙏🙏
