It doesn’t rain ..,

That’s what DL said in response to my last post about my recently discovered breast lump that was harmless other than 40 year old calcifications need to been scanned, gout that is in remission and intermittent voice loss I am sure is GERD and have an appointment to see the ENT man. No problems there then until the UTI I had been trying to treat myself wasn’t improving so I filled in the on line form to the Doc shop and himself took a sample to the Surgery. I dip sticked myself and it was positive for everything except Rabies. Starten on the Nitrofurantoin. Woke in the night with a rigour, called for help but he didn’t hear. Must have had another later as found at lunchtime collapsed. Admission arranged to the Medical Admissions Unit, daughter called who was incandescent with rage she hadn’t been told, son in law and son came to get me in downstairs and in the car. No easy task as like a dead weight. Cooled down as temp was 40 No point in trying for an ambulance in Wales. Got to the hospital and waited to be seen was eventually seen 4 days IV antibiotics 2 sleeping on a trolley, my fortune in private healthcare couldn’t save me. Discharged with another weeks antibiotics. Fortunately no kidney damage and creatin normal. Emailed the Surgery to say there has to be a contingency plan otherwise I will be dead. Very apologetic GP said there had been an error and I was to have an emergency pack which is helpful.

So girls and boys the moral of this is give it a go treating it yourself but for goodness sake get it tested. You don’t want to know about the hospital, disgusting and filthy. The clinical care was excellent and without exception even the young ones knew to double up the prednisolone, so well done those getting it into mainstream practice. You know where you are with PMR

Now I am home my son in law has Covid, so my daughter is isolating, my son is in France, my cleaner is on holiday and my best friend flew to Thailand, the other half has done his back in

Me? Just cleaned the kitchen, downstairs loo, wiped surfaces and vacuumed the floor. Told you I know how to have a good time

Take care🥂

You certainly do know how to live it up!!!

"Very apologetic GP said there had been an error"

And how far would THAT have gone in a court for negligence and you dead?

My GP here will let me have a spare pack of nitrofurantoin "just in case". And that is somewhere where I can SEE her same day if desperate and can't get through on the phone - you just turn up and wait, no-one to argue with.

Look on the bright side over the hospital - didn't collapse on top of you because of RAAC ...

You know how I am always positive. My daughter was told her Stage 4 breast cancer metastasis was stomach cancer, my son in law that his rapidly growing lymphoma was a harmless lump. Fortunately they are both in BUPA, he would have been dead in 3 months. For my Florence Nightingale scholarship I went to the Caribbean and in Barbados in the Maternity Unit, mums and babies were top to toe sharing beds. Some of our standards are heading towards third world 🥂

Heading?

Sorry, we are there. I went to France with my son and family in July, felt very safe if you don’t mind rectal medication 🥂

Mainland Europe does love its suppositories!!! Yes I feel safer here - said the other day, even a visit to the UK is less than appealing. My holiday medical insurance is the level that includes immediate air repatriation, the one below you have to wait 3 days, I wonder if I would have seen a doctor by then????

I doubt it, maybe a pharmacist or Care Coordinator. It’s self care or nothing. 🥂

Goodness me, I’m out of breath reading that! My son is on holiday in Wales before he went I told him to keep well in Wales or you are in trouble it seems. Hope things ease for you soon!

Very wise. It’s a huge worry and I have a GP husband. Although despite, the filthy lavatories, non working showers etc when I accessed clinical care I couldn’t fault it. I hope he has a lovely holiday, it’s a beautiful country

You take care 🥂

Thank you, he is in Cardigan Bay with wife and their 2 beloved dogs! In lovely cottage with acres of land, have had lovely photos of all on the beach with waterfalls etc, second year they have been there, love it so much.

I feel sorry for the wonderful staff in a dirty hospital, they probably have to put up with the complaints! Hope all goes well for you now 🤞

It’s stunning there and I am sure they will have a lovely time, perfect for a family.

One of the worst things we did was put Facilities out to tender, staff lost all sense of belonging and pride. Cleaners should be part of the Team

Take care 🥂

I agree

They got in a company here to do the cleaning - didn't last long before they were relegated to only cleaning the communal areas like the stairwells. They just weren't providing the level of cleanliness required on the wards. Hopefully there was a good contract that allowed them to get out.

Oh no what a time you've had. Very scary. I hope things settle for you. Best wishes and go easy on the cleaning. 💐

Thank you. There were signs up on my ward saying Get up, Get dressed, Get moving

I can’t see much point in getting dressed , no one sees me, I haven’t gone mad but I was a nurse and it’s therapeutic Back in bed now

Take care

Quite. Still here to tell the tale and will have my contingency in place. Time to take control.

Got up early to book Ballet tickets for March and the booking isn’t open until next Tuesday. Not so smug now.

Thank you. I used to be a Whippetygirl, more like a worn out greyhound now.

My neighbour and friend has macular degeneration, has lost the sight in one eye and is almost blind in the other. It puts it into perspective.

I use the profile Whippety Girl after my beautiful little whippet that I absolutely adore, she is the sweetest, gentle little soul and the one that keeps me going through this PMR journey with all its debilitating twists and turns.
