Turmeric is fine - CBD not usually recommended for PMR per se - there are related posts -and this link suggests not because of interactions with medication-

healthunlocked.com/pmrgcauk...

But as with anything really needs to be checked with medical team…

This also states check with GP -

As PMRpro has said turmeric better in cooking -and sounds as if you are getting that anyway 😊….

Be careful with turmeric supplements - they are quite high dose and can cause gastric upsets. To be honest I don't think anyone has found it makes a massive difference though several use it in cooking which is fine and say they can tell the difference when they miss it out,

My fella tends to use it in cooking so maybe I'll leave it for just the curries x Thanks xx

Does he use garlic and ginger too? Both antiinflammatory too

My sister makes a drink with garlic and ginger as well. She likes it!

I have a ginger and turmeric infusion, made from the freshly chopped root. No idea if it actually does anything, but I quite like the drink. :)

I drink this every morning - a very small shot - can't say it's enjoyable but .... steepsoneshot.com

It has Ginger, Turmeric, Horseradish, Chili, Garlic & Onion in Cider Vinegar. No good if you don't like spice though as it's a shocker the first time you try it. My sister hated it!!!

Ha, I am used to it now. It's the tiniest bit too, but can't say it's pleasurable

I like Kombucha - I get the same reaction from those lasses who think it’s revolting! 😂

I'll have to give that a whirl x

I love it… at local hotel they make up a champagne bellini cocktail - it’s a winner for me. Don’t know how they make it and a special treat!

Love Kombucha and quite partial to a bit of Kimchi

Unfortunately cannot try that as it’s quite salty and have history of renal calculus 😕…

I asked my rheumy and he said that I can. I haven't taken it so I can't attest for my experience.

I do take a low dose 25mg CBD gummy before bed because it helps me with sleep. I started using it when I couldn't sleep on high doses of Pred and I just kept on with it. I don't feel any effect of it, but I do sleep well. I also take 2.5mg melatonin.

I’m desperate for good sleep, my anxiety level is high and headaches don’t help nor does the feeling of impending doom, I think it could be depression perhaps, where do you get the CBD gummy?

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toStills

Have you discussed it with your GP? They do have various options, including melatonin for short term use to break a cycle. Have you tried the Nytol range? Different ones work for different people so don't give up because one doesn't help.

I’m a bit of a cynic when it comes to natural stuff, no reason, just feel as if I’m going to pay then I want definite results - could this be part of an AI condition or am I just mean 🤣 seriously though thank you for the suggestion , I will check it out and try that as I’m getting to the stage where I’m afraid to try and sleep in case I can’t if you know what I mean. I think the 3 family deaths at Xmas and now this cancer scare is making me a bit depressed or hysterical perhaps. I need to have a firm word with myself and get a grip rather than losing grip which is how I feel. Thank you PMR PRO for taking the time to reply to me when I don’t have PMR , I’m wondering snd fibromyalgia though but don’t think I hurt enough for that.

My kind Italian neighbour just popped round with some black figs from his tree ( Cambridgeshire)

I am also seriously mean! I asked for something from the chemist here - all herbal of course and I chose melatonin with herbal stuff. It works! I was willing to try it because the pred dose is so low now, I probably wouldn't have before.

GPs can give you melatonin in the UK - older and for short term use they are happy to. But your comment there - you need some TLC to come to terms (I hate that phrase but it says it) with the whole thing, sort it out a bit. It's a lot to face up to, brings our own mortallity into persepctive and it gets scary after 60!! I always read the notifications on the church door, most are in their 80s and above but sometimes they are my age or younger and then shivers go down my spine.

Why wouldn't I reply to you? You are part of this community. Enjoy those figs, they are so much better straight off the tree!

I like Figs Kindly send some and perhaps a bit of sunshine We've had an awful summer x

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toNorthernnugget

Unfortunately I'm a bit high up and bit far north for figs! Our caravan was stored down at Lake Garda for some years and one day when we took it back before coming home he gave me a handful that I watched him pick!

The sun has disappeared for now - but it is likely the thunder is on its way. They are threatening 34C even up here next week - I do hope they are wrong! I know about your less cold wet season for 2023, I look at the forecasts on Sky News and am grateful to be here! Staying here as long as I can ...

Thank you, melatonin it is, I’m going to the chemist tomorrow and will report back 😴

PMRpro profile image

Not sure you can get it in the UK except on prescription - but you can get the precursor 5HTP which is meant to help and some foods have melatonin in theM

Hi Stills, I buy Pure Kana 25mg CBD gummies. I'm in the US. I don't know if they are available everywhere. Plus I take one third of a Benadryl tablet, and 2.5mg melatonin. This has worked really great for me through this steroid journey. I hope you find yourself some much needed good sleep!
