red rash

Hi

I was diagnosed with PMR in April . Since then on several occasions, I’ve had The Butterfly marks across cheeks and bridge of nose , & red marks on neck .

Does anyone else get this with PMR?

PMR doesn’t normally give rashes. Have you mentioned this to a doctor? A butterfly rash can be associated with lupus which can also mimic PMR.

Thank you for your reply . Yes and I mentioned it to the rheumatologist , she didn’t say anything , I’ve just been left to get on with tapering off steroids after being put on A high dose because of suspected GCA . I thought it might be lupus too !

I’ve had no follow up appointment nor heard from my Gp .

Good Morning TTMC!I too have this. I first noticed it in May. I told gp and took photo to show her as I was concerned it might be Lupus. She thought it was pred related.

Best wishes

I noticed redness across my nose and cheeks, when we had the warm weather. As I have Sjögren’s, I mentioned it to my rheumatologist. Bloods were done, but negative for lupus. I think that, in my case, the meds made my skin more sensitive to the unaccustomed sunshine. It’s subsided, now.

Not a usual sign in PMR. As Snazzy says, although it can be found in quite a few things, it is traditionally associated with lupus and that can appear quite similar to PMR.

I had a few strange rashes and some areas of redness whilst on Pred although nothing too serious. But my GP at the time (wish she was still there!) prescribed Dermol Cream - 500g which comes in a ''pump' bottle. She said try using that instead of soap and see if it helps. It felt strange at first as it is very different but after a couple of weeks, all rashes and redness had gone.

Did they not screen you for lupus? That was one of the first tests that my doctor requested. I'd put my red nose down to my wine intake.

Could also be rosacea?

I was thinking that too!

My endocrinologist, which is treating my adrenal insufficiency, due to my PMR steroid regimen, says that it’s from the steroids.

I have a red rash/mark on my cheeks an nose. Looks like I have been caught by the sun while wearing specs. Had it a few months now. Thought it might be Rosia (don’t know how to spell 😊
