Dark marks in corners of eyes

Can anyone tell me if dark marks in the corners of my eye are anything to do with PMR please? This has been gradually getting worse and is now very noticeable.

Just for clarity.... do you mean marks in your vision? Or marks on your skin?

Marks on my skin by my nose

I had dark corners of eyes - top of lid running down just infringe of top of nose, a cross between dark make up or a bruised black eye - not sure what it was as I was cushionoid with swollen face and eyes with preds or condition. If that it, it never hurt but was embarrassing- Rarely get it now I am on lower dose of preds, gp seemed unconcerned.

Not sure if that is helpful and what you meant.

Hi Footfairy, Do you mean on your eyeball or on the skin around your eyes?

I seem to have perfectly applied brown eyeliner. It hasn’t really concerned me, so covered in splodges am I, with age I assumed.

Corner next to my nose

I have had raccoon eyes all my life, and judging from photos of my mother they are hereditary. I think it means the skin in the area is very thin. So if you've just been developing them it's possible it is to do with the skin thinning effects of pred.

Hello,

Since Pred I’ve had panda eyes that have improved very slowly with reducing dose. They look almost like a black eyes and are worse when my eyes are puffy if I’ve had any salt in my diet for a couple of days too. The darkest bit is in the corner near the nose, like I’m extremely tired. I find that concealer helps a bit and I try to never rub them as it makes them temporarily worse.

I think it's all part of your skin thinning which is a side effect of steroids which I have been on for many years now and hasn't got much better as I reduced my dose and I think the eye area is just a more delicate part of your skin .I do cover mine daily with specialcover makeup x

Thank you all for the replies. Sorry I was so vague (was just going to bed).

The dark marks are on he skin near the nose. If you were to touch the inner corner of your eyes with your forefingers that is the place. As SnazzyD said it makes me look very tired and even my friend noticed it yesterday and I'd tried to cover it (gently) with concealer. No pain in he area.

No one in my family has had this so I think it's either the PMR or Pred.

I reduced to 7mg on Friday 👏 So not on a high dose.

I think I was panicking last night in case I needed to go to GP or opticians and needed support and reassurance 👀

Had the same thing. It’s from Pred. Comes and goes and decreases as dose lowers. What dose are you on?

I'm only on 7mg (gradually reduced from original 15mg beginning of July 2017) so not a high dose.

Still think it’s Pred related! I blame all negativity on the drug!

Hey Sandy, What does "Pred" stand for?? Not familiar with that term. I have the same issue as Footfairy-1

prednisone (mostly USA) and prednisolone (mostly UK)

Prednisone is processed in the liver to form prednisolone which is the active substance. Pred covers both and is easier to spell...

Prednisone

I never had dark eyes until I went on Pred still have them - on 5mg now - but not quite as bad, don't think they'll go now, age n all

Hi

I developed very dark circles under my eyes & it went into the corners by my nose, l did look like I’d got two black eyes, my (old) GP glazed over when l mentioned them, Consultant looked puzzled!

Good Concealer helps but if lm tired or ‘unwell’ as opposed to ‘standard’ ha!ha! they look worse!

Oh the joys! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yes, it does look a bit like two black eyes. I'm using concealer so it doesnt look like OH has punched me (I hope). 😳

It did seem to get worse when I had a cold and also during the first week of reducing.

Just one more thing to experience.

in reply toFootfairy-1

So it’s either PMR or the Pred!

Take Care xx

Even a spot of white highlighter in that eye area and on the brow line might help. It’s not harmful so take tips from the young selfie girls. 😊

This is a year old SJ - how did you get here?

SheffieldJane profile image
SheffieldJane in reply toPMRpro

It popped into my in box and I didn’t notice. Not the first time either. Maybe people look through old posts and respond or something. Not my best answer either!

I do this as well. It just appears and I start to answer then realise its months or years old!!!

in reply toYellowbluebell

I think it’s when someone looks at old posts, then ‘likes’ them or a comment, thus bringing them back to the top as l’ve often looked for a new comment but there aren’t any.

It's happened to me quite a lot too recently - sometimes I wonder about old threads being stopped as they do on patient.info. Doesn't stop you talking about the post again by starting a new discussion that becomes more relevant.

It’s quite useful to see your own progress or lack, of though. With Pred head you can fail to see the patterns, when tapering for instance. New people can look at old posts to get up to speed, I think that may be happening.

I have dark in the corners of my eyes. Never had them before prednisone.

I have PMR and now down to 5mg do Prednisone. I still have black corners in my eyes. Can anyone tell me the symptoms of GCA?

You would be better reposting as a new thead - few people will see this on a 3 year old thread.I think though that the dark bits in the corner of the eyes they are talking about are external - not in their vision.

I've *never* had prednisone but am concerned as this skin discolouration getting worse the older I get. It seems very common in older ppl
