thank you

Thank you to everyone for their support and responses. I feel now I am making the right choice to stay on steroids as my improvement has been so positive. I am going to cancel my next appointment with the rheumatologist as he leaves me with doubts and no answers and he did say he was going to refer me back to the GP so I’ll see if I get more support from her. If not, and I continue to be so much more mobile and pain free I will use the taper recommended on this site and “do my own thing”. Thank you all so much

Crikey but I feel such a wet blanket, brilliant that you feel so supported - have you got or ensured a supply of Pred? I do seem to remember you were given a 'trial', which does suggest not huge amount prescribed.

Yes I’ve got plenty to assist me with his proposed taper which I doubt I’ll follow and then I’ll be back under the guidance of the GP. I don’t feel the rheumatologists “ one size fits all” approach would be good for me as I’ve had the symptoms of pmr for 8 months before getting any help

not a wet blanket at all. As someone on here said go with your instincts and the support you get on here. When I start the taper I will follow the advice of people who’ve had the experience. I’ve got plenty of Preds to see me through for a few weeks by which time I expect to start the slow taper then I’ll keep in touch with my GP when I need more meds. My body will let me know if I’m on the right track

I might be following you Nanatoo and hope it works out. My first consultation with rheumatologist left more doubts and no answers too but followed advice anyway. Supposed to have follow up appointment fortnight ago but now have to wait 7 weeks instead and the so called rheumatological help line will take 6 weeks for nurse to return my call. Will see the GP on Monday but only in desperation and so there is a record on my medical file

I just felt he’d read up pmr on Google so could not give me answers to my questions. I’m sure everyone he sees will have different queries and with more experience he’ll be able to help more people but he’s lost me now and I’ll just keep in touch with my GP if I have any problems.

Mine has 10+ years experience and GP’s mother has PMR - they really should know more when so much guidance/evidence already exists. Good luck with your GP !
