Replying to everyone who has been helping me about the 100,000 Uvedose of Vitamin D3. Seems it is popular in France. My level in the US is usually under 30 which is the lowest you should have and the last time it was 30 in midwinter so it doesn't make a lot of sense to me regarding sunshine.
My skin is a mess - incredibly thin and I have mentioned the bruising which makes me always look like I just fell down a flight of stairs. And have had osteoporosis for years. I wear lots of sunscreen, self tan and makeup and burn easily.
Anyway, It is the gut issue that spurs my hesitancy not to take the uvedose of 100,000 one time each month for 6 months.I have a twisted colon that causes constipation etc issues and a colitis type syndrome that can lead to pain and bleeding and then is gone completely. And really bad acid reflux from a very tight esophagus and then uncoated Pred in the US. I take Nexium 20 twice a day and Famotidine 40 every evening and oodles of antacid things. Since I have been in France and walking lots more and lots of water and amazing fresh produce, stomach has been doing pretty well. Don't want to ruin that.
When folks have had gut reaction to oral Vitamin D3 did it last a long time? And what kind of symptoms? Not sure how long the dose will be active in my gut etc. It is maddening for me to always have to consider my gut but all the above can cause amazingly painful times with gut cramps and severe nausea. I have a kit of meds just for those attacks. I always have to weigh cost/benefit.I wonder what if I just drink half the ampoule and toss the rest until I see how I react? That's 50,000 IU's?? When I tried tablets of a normal type dose in the US years ago I was immediately constipated. Thanks again everyone!!

Hello, given your big concerns regards your gut, it might be more reassuring to have a smaller more frequent dose or build up slowly. I don’t know if that capsule is formulated for being broken; you’ll need to check. The trouble is that no matter what people say about their experience, it won’t tell you with certainty what yours might be. I suspect that even if 50 people say they are fine with it, you won’t be 100% happy. Reading your post, it sounds to me like you’ve answered your own question. If you mean your Vit D level was 30, it means you really need some supplementation of some sort as it will exacerbate your osteoporosis. It’s not easy is it?
Thank you. In the past, the smallest tablet upset my stomach. I had olive oil drops with it in it and it never bothered me. Not sure how much it worked. This being a liquid in a vial sounded like a possibility but may not be effective as a more frequent dose anyway. Yes not easy!!
If it were me, I'd ask the local pharmacy for a lower dosed option you can take once a week or even twice a week. The dose is right enough, it is just the taking it once a months - which has been shown to be less effective than smaller doses. There is even a recent publication saying that taking a dose every day long term is more protective against several illnesses than taking megdoses much less often.
They were sold on this product and just had the kind of over the counter tablets that I have. had problems with before. I may just try a small amount of one of the vials and see how it feels!! Thanks again.
Tbh honest with the research I've done taking Vit d3 once a week or month is not the best idea. That huge dose will be contributing to your tummy issues. I also have a twisted bowel with colitis and suffer constipation. You have to take it daily. If you're that low then 10000iu is probably what you need daily. Do you take Vit K2 with it as that is needed for better absorption? I take 4,000iu of d3 (a capsule in olive oil from Amazon) daily and my levels are great and no tummy issues. I also take but K2 with it.
I have trouble with calcium supplements. Gut pain and constipation So I have never taken k2 and know nothing about it. I am wondering about other Ks? My mother lacked K and had bleeding issues. I don’t have that but I’m wondering about some form of K for all the bruising?
Not without being diagnosed as being K-deficient but a doctor has presumably investigated that in the past? There is topical vit K and arnica creme that would help - assuming you don't have any cardiovascular history?
Hi, I don't lack K and your are probably right it is jus the incredible thinness of my skin which is very light anyway and the blue veins shine through so close to the service. I really am turning into "Bluegirl". Ha! Ha!
I will source some other D3 options that are safer feeling. Re; the arnica cream with K - I will need to check with cardio about that I have some weird abnormalities. I use tons of arnica - gel and a hard to find spray version Arnica Froid that comes out in a cold spray foam that is amazing especially if you catch the bruise immediately. Also good for aches and pains in general.
I also have a form of haemophilia. K1 is more help for clotting. K2 is better to move the calcium where it should be as PMRpro said. I have K1 in my Multivitamin so just take extra K2 with my d3. Look on amazon for vit d3 capsules in olive or coconut oil or even sunflower oil, rather than tablets. Some combine K2 with it already so you don't have to buy separately.
thank you. I like the idea of D in olive oil as I was able to take drops of D in olive oil but I probably need more than the drops Sorry we share troublesome gut issues. Have been replacing Linzess with MAGO also from Amazon. Very helpful.
