Versus arthritis leaflet on steroids and PMR

I picked up a leaflet/booklet from Versus Arthritis about Steroid tablets in a hospital the other day and I think it would be useful particularly to those new to PMR/taking steroids. An updated new version is available free to download or you can order a free paper copy from them via their website. They also have guides to PMR and GCA, a booklet about steroid injections and guides to all sorts of arthritis and medicines used to treat it and other autoimmune conditions such as Raynauds. I'm sure they'd welcome donations if you can afford it but it's all free at source.

It's good that leaflets are back in hospitals - they were all put away during the pandemic. It'd be useful if PMRGCAuk could find a way to get the charity's own leaflets to all the rheumatologists in the land. Who knows, some of them might even read it and join up!

That’s a novel concept! But it would be good ….

It seems a very effective thing to do though and if the leaflets get to people with PMR should result in more people joining the charity. I wonder how many rheumatologists we have in the land? Probably about 4 as I know we have a chronic dearth of ologists in Britain nowadays

It has been under discussion, hasn't been ignored.

I'm willing to do my bit to help. First step is to find out how many rheumatologists we have in Yorkshire at the various hospitals - Dr Mackie may be able to help or is there a list somewhere?

It is the basic cost of printing leaflets - it has been discussed with VA in the recent past.

thanks for the link. It’s a very useful document, although no mention of catarrh in the throat or a sore tongue.

I was given some brochures at end of recent consultation, as I’ve been diagnosed with Raynauds & hypermobility! There’s also a new one on fibromyalgia. I know that some people suffer from that who are on this forum! My only comment is that it’s easy for consultants to hand out brochures at end of appointments for patient to read, but some of the doctors then don’t explain your new conditions or answer your questions! Also I would have been happy to read online…now I’ve read the new FM brochure, after 15 years there’s nothing new for me, but I guess you can’t return them! I’m a versusarthritis fan, as now have bad OA, & my Dr thinks I have RA. If people can download, then it saves the cost of printing, it seems to me that all these are produced through charity? I assumed they were Govt funded. Thanks, TC!

That's what we are hoping to do for PMR/GCA - and it means they can be far more comprehensive without a massive start-up cost and they can be kept up-to-date which the leaflets can't until there is a new print run.

was just picturing all the people here asking for printed leaflets…& the charity saying ‘what? There’s been a huge demand for this brochure, will have to reprint!! I wasn’t given the alternative & now have brochures stuck in the bookcase!! S xx
