Hello folks ,

Could I ask for some advice I have had the flu , that left me with a respiratory infection all over the past 3 weeks .

This Sunday started vomiting and diarrhoea , this has eased but my stomach feels so tender.

Have managed to drink and have some toast today .

My query is that I could not take any medication just came back up . Have not taken my steroids for 3 days now is that ok ?

Have tried to get through to my docs over the last 2 days .

Thank you all

No, it isn’t. Have you tried calling 111? You may need steroid backup like an injection to tide you over. How are you feeling apart from the stomach?

Thank you for your swift reply .

I feel shaky and bit weak , my stomach is so tender .

I have been taking steroids since August was getting down to 10 mg but it was not enough felt I needed to up them as aches and pain coming back .

I will phone my Docs back and explain .

The risk is more from an adrenal crisis which is life threatening than PMR which is not. If it is a case of persuading receptionists, you need to say that you need urgent help you need to tell them that it is dangerous to be without steroids especially when you are ill. I would still call 111 *as well* instead of trying to get through to your GP to speed things up. You don’t need your own GP because any doctor should see the problem.

Hi

I have just posted as had the same as you ended up with Ambulance call out.

Interesting A & E Doctor would not let me take any meds as he said would not stay down.

But when the Ward consultant came to see me he

Immediately wrote up 10 mg of Steroids as he said even a little in my system was better than nothing .

Hope you feel better soon

No it isn't OK. You should call the GP for an injection of steroid and if you can't get through to them, call 111. While ill you actually need MORE pred to be able to recover and after the time you've been on above 10mg pred you are at risk of an adrenal crisis with no pred in the system and that is a real medical emergency - which can be averted very simply with a couple of injections.
