Nausea and prednisone

I have been off methotrexate for 7 weeks now due to waves of nausea. I am transitioning 1mg/month of prednisone and 2 days ago came down to 9mg then back to 10 today and 9 again tomorrow. Problem is that today the waves of nausea are back. Is this now pred? I have been free of nausea from mtx for over a week until today.

The effect of methotrexate persists for several weeks and it may be that the changes in dose from day to day have just upset some sort of balance. Have you tried taking some sort of antiemetic to try to deal with the nausea? I think I have heard MrsNails mentions doing that - travel sickness tablets may be enough.

I'm going to live with it for the time being as it only lasts 30 secs to a minute and maybe 4 x day. The whole thing has made me very diet conscious which can only be good for me. Such a struggle this disease!!

Ginger seems to help with nausea. Mint tea helps me as well, even with stomach pain.I would guess that Methotrexate is still lingering in your system. Although I used to get a kind of mild nausea/ hollow feeling with Pred withdrawal.

It does seem to be improving. I blame the mtx

I too am coming off MTX and been told that it could take months to wash out of my system,my main concern now is the rheumy has suggested Leflumonide and I am not enjoying reading about that.

I am happy just being on pred atm but rheumy thinks I may need something more to help me taper. I'm down to 9mg ok 1mg monthly. I hope tha nausea is still from the mtx. It does seem to be a bit less each day

Hi Caloo

Sorry l haven’t been around today, MTX usually causes nausea on the day you take & maybe a day or so afterwards.

The effects of MTX linger for up to 12weeks a similar time to reach the optimum dose.

It’s very easy sometimes to assume it’s the Meds, but if the Pred hasn’t caused you issues in the past could it be something else?

Any change of diet or other Medication? I’d mention it to your Consultant or GP as to the way forward.

Good Luck

MrsN

My diet is pretty much the same and the nausea only lasts 30 seconds and is at random times throgh the day. The GP wanted to know if I could live with it assuming it was pred and the tapering

I haven't been on methodrexate so different scenario for me. But suddenly started bad nausea. After experimenting with foods, it turned out to be the organic yoghurt I was taking before pred and on porridge. Now take soya yog and OK.

Just out of curiosity, may I just ask was it cow's milk yog or from the milk of another animal?

It was cows milk organic natural yoghurt. All nausea passed as soon as I stopped it. I stopped taking milk too as a precaution and now I can only drink coffee black and I drink Roibosch tea black. I caneat cheese but think my system was overloaded with yoghurt!!

Thank you. I take goat's milk yog because I decided my system didn't like cow's milk yoghurt - nothing as dramatic as nausea though. I haven't tried soya yet though something keeps telling me it would be more ethical to be vegan. One day.....!

More than one side to it though - here where I live the animals keep the landscape as it is. No animals and it would go to pot. And a lot of people would be have no income - veggies don't grow too well on mountains ...

No veganism here! Tried goat's milk, delicious, but rich!
