Has anyone heard of this with omg?

I ve been having trouble with my bladder for six months .An infection that didn't respond to antibiotics.Ive had two cytoscopy s and first one was very blurry so booked me another one. This time I emptied my bladder first. The urologist scared me finding two suspicious growths. Then he took two biopsies for cancer.Worried for three weeks. My appt was for today and was so relieved my results weren't cancer.Strangely he said the prednisone and inflammation from omg has caused what I have.He then says see you in a year. How am I to know how to heal my bladder?

What a relief. I had bladder trouble that was due to chemical irritation from Pred and calcium supplements. I suspect the irritation allowed pathogens a free ride into the tissues made worse by low oestrogen from menopause.

Keeping my urine dilute always and cutting my dose of calcium right down and eventually relying on diet alone got rid of the issue. I also never wash with soap there directly; water only.

What dose of Pred are you on now?

Thanks for the reply.Iam on 12mgs.My reumy put me on 15 when got the infection.I go in Jan.finally for an in office appt but he's not that experienced with pmg.I recently had a telephone appt and told him about my biopsies. His reply was hope it isn't cancer and you can decide how much prednisone to take.

Thank you for this post, I have to wear a pad as can’t now trust my bladder. was thinking it was just to do with getting older. Temptation is not to drink so much which i know is the wrong thing to do. All your replies have been so helpful .

Pred made my muscles weak which meant my pelvic floor struggled because all the muscles around the abdomen and hips were also weak. It was helped by exercises for the pelvic floor but must do them daily and I’m happy to say, no leakages in spite of a mild prolapse.

I had bladder problems due to calcium supplements causing grit to form in the urine and irritate the bladder. But both PMR itself and pred can cause irritable bladder symptoms. I also have a history of infections. D-mannose helps a lot.

I have purchased that so I may give it a try.Iam just not sure if my body needs more prednisone or is it safe to taper.I seem to be ok except my bladder.Tapered from 15mg to 12 since Sept.

Give yourself a week to calm down and then try a little step down - and watch out for symptoms. You can always stop a small drop and go back if it doesn't work

You mentioned this in one of your recent posts and I picked up on it as I had a history of bladder problems last year. Ended up having a procedure which seemed to solve it until it started up again following 5th covid jab (new Moderna). Stopped taking calcium supplement tablets, amended diet and all is now OK. Will research D-mannose. Many thanks, you are a star!!

It is the sugar in cranberry juice that seems to flush the bugs out of the bladder wall - taking it along with abx improves and speeds up the killing off of the bacteria but it also flushes them out without abx, By using the supplements you save drinking lots of sugary juice.

Hi Hunter 134, I've had an irritable bladder for 8 months, driving me mad, I take Urofem D-Mannose and that helps a lot, it relieves the symptoms. On 6th December I'm having the camera and urologist is going to stretch the bladder, she said it will feel better immediately. I'm also on a low oxolate diet which does help. See if you can get some D-Mannose tablets(completely natural) I take 1 tablet 3 times a day(1000mg) I certainly know if I'm late taking 1, unbearable pressure to empty bladder then a few minutes later have to go again, very unpleasant. Good luck.

I’m sorry to hear that you have had so many bladder problems. I too had UTIs earlier in the year with several courses of antibiotics. Eventually my GP prescribed an oestrogen pessary to try and I must say it has made such a difference . I am on 4 mgs prednisolone at the moment and my GP didn’t seem to think prednisolone was the cause of the UTIs….but to do with the menopause.

I asked my reumy if bladder problems were related to Pmg and he said no.Ironicly it seems alot of ppl on here do at some point. My uroligist said the prednisone makes it hard to get rid of them due to lower immunity.I was on 15mg for quite awhile.Iam on 12mg now but I've struggled to taper. With having the infection so long my bladder is inflamed.I ve had alot of stress the last three years which doesn't help.I was given two biopsies and then the same week my daughter got covid .She was hospitalized due to being double transplanted.Scary for sure.

Shame he's never had PMR - he wouldn't say something so silly!

That said - Prof Mackie was surprised when I told her bladder problems go with PMR but, true to form, she started asking her patients and discovered a large number do have problems. She did the same with hand and foot symptoms in PMR. I do like educating doctors :)
