has anyone been on cellcept

Hi grace1,
I am changing to cellcept from methotrexate in April.
They are a immunosuppressant and were first used to stop kidney transplant patients rejecting their new kidney.
They are used quite widely in Vasculitis and Lupus.
I believe they are well tolerated. If you go onto the Vasculitis UK health unlocked site there are quite a few posts there about cellcept ( mycophenolate motefil ). I know there is at least 1 person on here that takes them and has posted.
Good luck.
Thanks keyes, I have to get blood test every week for a month then every 2 wks for 2 months they say the side affects are really bad but I will try anything if it means no more pain. Hope you get on well with it aswell good luck.
My doctor wants me to try Cellcept. I have decided to wait a bit longer and try to reduce Prednisolon very slowly instead. I dont feel so good but I usually get better in spring.
Good luck Grace. I hope you tell us how it works for you.
To akselolsen, everytime I come down to 5 or less pred I end up with really bad flare ups so have to go up to the very high dose, start all over again so I will try them and c what happens l will let u all know hoe it all goes.
Hi Grace, I have been on Cell Cept for over four years. I think it is the original brand of Mycrophenolate motefil, there are other brands one of which is Myfenax, I believe Cell Cept is more expensive than the others. I was prescribed the cheaper brands but they didn't suit me, sickness and diareaoa. I take 1000mg twice a day with a full glass of water, I was started on 500 mg twice a day. Blood tests were done every week, then gradually longer inbetween test, I now have tests every two months. I have no problem taking it but I must stress it is important to have a full glass of water. I have got down to 2mg predisiolone and take the usual blood pressure and pain relief tablets. It has defiantly helped keep my GCA under control. Hope this helps, best wishes
