Bad Reaction to Moderna Jab

Hi everyone. I have been PMR free for 2 years. On 4th Oct had Omicrom booster which within eight hours caused a horrible Head and Earache. Was in bed all next day with Flu like symptoms, but to my horror have got up today with full blown PMR symptoms.

I had PMR for seven years and you all know what that is like with the horrible rollercoaster of pain and Steroid reductions. I am so frightened that it is back and wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

Thank you,Jenny

I still have PMR and felt worse for a couple of weeks after jab 4 Moderna but it went away.

The second Moderna jab last year caused a minor flare which lasted a few weeks but it was mainly the fatigue. No other jab has had an effect. But I took a month of a statin in the early part of the year - and that was associated with a far worse return of symptoms which I am still dealing with,

My daughter has just had Covid having not had a booster for nearly a year, not eligible despite being front line NHS staff. She went back to work 10 days ago and was sent straight home after an asthma attack - and has barely been able to function because of fatigue since. Whatever a vaccine may do, the virus itself is likely to be worse.

Hi it is Jenny again, the original poster. I am due for a Flu Jab on Wednesday, do you think it would be wise to postpone for a week or so.

Thank you

Might be sensible- how are you getting on with flare from covid vaccine?

Re flu vaccine, I always take paracetamol for 24 hours prior to ANY vaccine, and 24-48 hours afterwards. Never had an issue other than slightly tender around vaccine site even on high doses with GCA.

when you say 24hrs before do you dose or just take 2 pills? And afterwards obviously more? I have just had the flue vaccine . No reaction as far as I can feel but a little more heart arrhythmia. I have the Covid lined up for next week but am nervous

I usually take 2tabs three times a day - for the 24hrs before, same on day of vaccine, and see how I feel following day.

I regularly take 2xtabs at bedtime for Osteoarthritis anyway…

Thank you. I will try the same.

Hi DorsetLady. I think I will postpone the Flu Jab for a week or so. Still very achey in Hips, Shoulders and Neck. I don't normally react to Vaccines, so I hope it hasn't caused PMR to come back. I have been off Pred for two years now after having PMR for seven long years.

I like your idea about the Paracetomol.

Thank you Jenny

Fingers crossed it’s all okay.

Hi Jenny - like you I've been off pred for about two years. Had my covid vaccination in 24/9 and have full blown PMR feelings now. Can hardly open my hands and arms really sore and can't lift up much. Have had blood test this week. ESR up but CRP normal. Have had total knee replacement six weeks ago so wasn't sure if related to that or the vaccine. Really do not want PMR back.

Could be either - or both.

Raised ESR may well to due to TKR -as mine was long after GCA - as well as a myriad as other things….including your body fighting the vaccine.

Keep an eye on things-and maybe get it rechecked in a couple of weeks….

Do flares go away? 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Depends on what caused them. If it was overdoing things, yes when you calm down the activity.

If it was due to the immune system being prodded, it depends on whether it calms down again.

Thanks everyone for replying to my post. Good news, the PMR flare seems to have calmed down and I seem to be back on track, thank goodness.

I will be nervous of having the jab again as I had PMR for seven years and don't think I could face that again.
