Hi just wanted to know who members use for travel insurance. Not planning anything exotic but was rather alarmed by the quotes so far . Many thanks

I think it needs a bit of searching - guess you’ve tried the obvious-

Your bank, post office, Saga, comparison sites.

Age is obviously a big factor -not a lot you can do about that though -

If you have existing house or motor insurance sometime if company does travel as well you may get a discount -LV does I know!

Where are you wanting to go - remember the whole of the EU now ranks alongside the rest of the world which always was more expensive.

I have used Staysure this year . They are Ok with medical conditions.

it seems the older you are the more difficult it gets. We have travel insurance through bank a/c, co-op bank, opened specifically for the purpose. Quite reasonable compared to other quotes.

I have a Lloyds Gold current account. It provides worldwide travel insurance until age 80, car breakdown cover and mobile phone insurance (it is a joint account so covers us both). Used to be free if you kept £2k in but they started charging £14.95 a month a year or so ago. I have hypertension and that is covered. PMR is also covered. BUT PMR and hypertension combined attracts an additional premium of £70. Its still good value methinks. We will have holidayed 70 days by the end of the year so it out at roughly £3.50 per day.

Did you search on ‘travel insurance’ on this site? This question has been asked a few times & you’d find more answers in there. The quotes I’m getting are around £500 for 2 of us to go to Italy as a single time insurance. It’s a lot to add to just one holiday! The annual cover is far too high for us now. But I have about 9 diseases I had to put in, & Hubby has four! We were with Staysure for years before Covid, after my bank wouldn’t cover us any longer on their travel insurance! Good luck!

It is a big expense on top of a holiday, as with everything the only way is up 😩

I did a stay sure quote and they have now sent a 20% off code so that might be worth a look . A lot of them will do this if you run through a quote

yes, i now have 20% off offers. Forgot to say…we had an annual insurance before I was diagnosed with PMR. I rang up to tell them that I’d been diagnosed with it, & she said ‘fine, will note that’…no medical questions, no increase in policy…you shouldn’t have to pay more if all you have is PMR!! My increase is purely due to 7 other diseases, or is it 8? S x

We've just used Sainsbury's bank. It was quite reasonable and a lot of it is based on what meds you take, without having to go through your full medical history.

Thanks, will try it!

Recently bought travel insurance and when I stated Polymyalgia no further questions were asked

Found that rather strange

Why? When I declared GCA and osteoarthritis-there were more questions on the latter -particularly if I had it in my neck (I don’t don’t).

Like I say Strange but true

Well some illnesses are likely to cause serious issues, hospitalisation and medical recovery back home than others.

Fortunately PMR and GCA don’t usually fall into that category.

I found osteopenia doubled my quote but can’t remember who I went with last time (2019) 🤔

Can understand that -especially with flying….

One is tempted to point out that osteopenia is NOT a medical condition. It is merely a term that means lower bone density than you had at 30! Now osteoporosis I could understand. And a lot of other xxx-penia disorders.

I agree pmr pro and had even forgotten to add it so phoned back to include it and my reasonable insurance no longer was. Trouble is if you miss anything off and you make a claim they will pick up on anything. I have steroid myopathy on my records, that really confused them. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Have a look on Martins money saving webpage on the insurance page. They give lots of advice on who try depending on your circumstances. Saves doing all the hard work of searching for hours.

On filling in the form for my hubby, I put that he has a lung nodule. The next question was "Is it a benign brain tumour?" 🤔

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toBroseley

Duh - the clue may be in the name??????? At least it had a simple answer evn they could understand: NO!

Broseley profile image
Broseley in reply toPMRpro

I tried "no" and it then assumed he had a malignant tumour!!!

PMRpro profile image

You're kidding!

Broseley profile image
Broseley in reply toPMRpro

No, i had to put "yes" then it was confirmed as a benign lung nodule. Something strange with their algorithms! I wish this site would automatically correct i to I !!

There are a lot of things I wish this site would do - using the shift key for I is minor! Automatic placement of the cursor when I click reply would be nice to have back!!!
