GCA and travel insurance

Hi everyone.

This is my first time posting although I have been following the group since I started on my GCA journey in June 2019.

Has any one recently contacted their travel insurance company to declare GCA and inform of prescribed steroids? If so was there an increase in premium and by how much.

Thanks in anticipation.

It seems to vary but generally it isn't a massive increase. An existing policy should cover it anyway - it will be taking out a new or renewing a policy it will arise.

One of the forum members went abroad just a few weeks after being diagnosed with GCA and from what he has said there was no dramatic increase. If your company loads the policy it may be worth looking at other insurers.

I had no extra put on my family annual policy and it wasn’t made an exclusion either.

I have travelled outside Canada 4 times since diagnosed in October 2018. Always able to get reasonable travel policy. My annual policy was with Manulife. They cancelled that policy. I switched to tourmed in Trois Rivieres Quebec They are great. I fully declare all my drugs. Blood pressure plus prednisone. Reasonable coverage.

I have travelled long haul twice now since being diagnosed with GCA and have had no increase on my travel insurance (mine is with my bank)..

I did and there was no increase in our payment. This was for GCA and Pmr. David

It won't be a massive increase if any at all - they didn't seem to know what it was but declare everything and you're covered.

Have free travel insurance through Lloyds bank. They charged me 67.00 per year to cover my pmr.
