Travel Insurance for PMR sufferers

I see there was a similar post earlier today. Can anyone recommend an Insurer for a single trip to two European countries including a cruise? I'm 76, and resident in the UK. Moneysupermarket and their ilk say they can't offer me a policy but directed me to Money Helper. That's a Government site that lists about fifty possibilities, but I've no way of knowing which of them might be the best bet. Happy Christmas all.

We are with All clear insurance. We are in our 70s. We paid an extra 20 for polymyalgia

You have to do the slog really I'm afraid because they all have different views of PMR - it shouldn't have ANY effect on the premium really and never used to!

They are all different but we have used Staysure in the past, also Saga. My Nationwide account covers Travel Insurance with no extra penalty for PMR. I’m afraid you’ll need to do the research for your exact requirements.

If you're a Barclays Premier customer, their policy underwritten by Aviva is very good and very good value. It includes RAC too.

if the only medical issue you need covered is PMR, then any company should take you, but you have to get a quote specific to your age, whether a single person or couple etc. people can only say where they have had a good experience, may be different for you! A lot of companies won’t take people over 70, & some don’t want cruise ship passengers as so many catch bugs & germs when cruising, as a ship is the easiest way for bugs like covid to Ihave fun’ spreading! When I was diagnosed I had to add PMR to my existing annual insurance & it didn’t change my price at all. They just noted it. It should make no difference to your quote. I have 12 medical issues which need to be covered & can’t get a quote from compare the market or similar, but you may be excluded due to being over 70. It’s highly unlikely to be PMR, it’s not a big risk factor. I got quite from 40 insurers last year, many refused me. Our best in previous years were Staysure & Insurancewith, but both refuse me now. Avanti came out the best with Free Spirit second. My quote for two people for single cover to the USA for 3 weeks was £4,500. Cheapest quote I can get for Europe is around £600 for a single two week holiday. Merry Christmas to you, too! You may want to google ‘insurance companies that take people over 70, or similar words’! It takes me 45 minutes to get one quite & I got 40 last year!

I use AllClear. The company rang me and we went through the policy and medical conditions

Goodtogo or Stay sure both covered me and my hubby when other companies would not.

Many thanks all. It looks as though it's mainly our ages that have led to a high quote (and the cruise, as Pixix pointed out). So I'll fill in our details on a few of the companies suggested, and see what I get.

Have you tried your bank? AXA offered me ins but it was well over £200.

I got insurance through SAGA without difficulty.

Well that's been an interesting hour or two on the web. I've got quotes from Saga and Staysure. An annual policy with Saga is half that for a single trip! All Clear's website has never heard of Polymyalgia Rheumatica, so I couldn't get past page 2. I asked Good To Go for an annual policy, but they require me to list every country I'm going to. On an annual policy I might go anywhere in Europe. So I'm not pursuing that one.

Surely the EU covers them all since you also have the new version of the EHIC card for there?

All Clear have been good for me, over 70 and with several health conditions. Did not need cruise cover though. Found them through Moneyhelper. Was advised to try companies from the list which didn’t use the most common algorithms to decide quotes.
