My build up to new year

Constance13 profile image
50 Replies

Wednesday - coughed all day. Thurs - fine in the morning - blacked out pm preparing special family meal. Been in bed ever since. Dizzy, feel sick if I eat anything.

This is NOT a good beginning to 2022 - especially as I had it in mind to be much more active this year.🤨😕

If you passed out, a doctor should see you!

No chance! Doctor - at this time of year?

Emergency department doctor.

Probably just the thought of being my active, made you more active and you overdid it trying to concentrate on that special family meal. Teach the family how to prepare that meal (watching with an eagle eye, then sit down, and enjoy the result. Let someone else do the washing up or do you have a dishwasher.

Constance keep an eye on yourself and when holidays over methinks a chat with a medic.

Thanks!Daughter and SIL warned me last year not to prepare big meals any more. But I just wanted to do my bit as usual (thought I was getting better)!😏

We have all mod cons and everyone is very helpful.

I have two consultant appointments in the next three weeks.

Upwards and onwards!

You daft bat, you should have learned by now to listen and heed good advice that comes from people who care. I trust you will now heed that good advice and take notice. You are not daft all the time just still think we are 21 and neither of us are - long gone that age.

🌟🌠⭐️'s Good you are seeing medics soon, so write down now all you want to say to those medics and make their day............

Gave me a laugh anyway.😂😂 Will see what next few days will bring.

Please be mindful that as others have already suggested, it's probably a good idea to seek medical advice if you blacked out! This doesn't happen for no reason and could be related to many things (as well as exhaustion) Steroids can lead to us developing quite a few other issues that may cause us to black out .....such as, blood pressure issues, diabetes, etc. It really needs to be checked out though.

Sorry to hear that, but mgrogers99 is right, you should be checked out.

Do hope you are feeling better soon - and agree with all that has been said!

Have you got anything equal to our 111 call system. I have had amazing calls and visits over last two years. Sent cancer nurse to set my mind at rest over unexpected lumps after surgery, rang me back after I had taken chemo tablets incorrectly. Also Doc came twice to see John at weekend all very professional and caring. Glad your family are around. Big hugs and take care. Jen x

I don't think so - there isn't one here in Italy. The ambo crew do an assessment and make a decision whether you need a doctor and certain calls trigger the Notarzt (emergency doctor and nurse) to be sent out too. There is also a GP on duty for your area - some are outstanding and triage well. Others have no business being GPs!! But that applies everywhere.

Wish I could say the hospice had been as good. 😕

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to 5lupins

Never really got to find out what they were like at hospice - OH had had 10 days at a point where they decided he didn't need them - he did and we did get probably 90% of what was possible with palliative care. When we needed hospice - wasn't a bed available in the region, not even respite care. Luckily our daughters had planned a visit as soon as quarantine wasn't a problem to go back to work . One is a nurse with end of life care experience and the other works in A&E so good background for the rest. Without them it would have been even worse than it was - they did an amazing job and even taught the local community nurses some things. It was getting medication that was so difficult - different culture with less experience of hospice - and that really is something that the UK are world leaders at.

What a blessing that he had his own loved ones taking care of him. Who wouldn’t want that? 💜

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to SheffieldJane

True - but very hard on them, even as professionals, and to be honest I don't know how much he was aware of.

Oh, No! Definitely not the sort of more active you were hoping for to start 2022.You should get some phone call advice even if other medical services aren't available to you just now.

Its not just that you blacked out , which can happen to all of us if we have been doing too much when under the weather. You still have symptoms and its getting worse. I hope you do take action and call someone.

Have you taken a lateral flow test just to be sure it isn't Covid related. I think you should as many people are having more cold like , nausea symptoms with the new strain.

Have you had your third vaccination a few days prior to these symptoms , some people with lower immunity are having cold like reactions and high temperatures after the vaccination , not because they have a virus , or because the vaccination isn't right , but because their immunity is already low and they are developing other viruses that were already hanging around in their systems but hadn't shown symptoms yet.

Noravirus is also doing it's winter rounds at the moment. Sicky feeling and dizzy could be symptoms if that.

At the least keep the fluids up , take paracetamol if you can and try and keep up the Vitamin C . I hope you feel better soon and next year you will remember to let the family do all the hard work .

Take care , Bee x

Hate to say this, my 22 year old granddaughter passed out, didn't feel too bad next day, but then tested positive...hope you don't but just saying....You'll be active, but not right now.....

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to Longtimer

I must admit that has crossed my mind. On Wednesday I coughed all day, Thursday collapsed - haven't been right ever since. Have ordered covid test strips.

Can you borrow a clip on finger oximeter from somewhere? That might indicate whether your blood oxygen levels were too low?

Constance13 profile image

Hmmm! Will look into it! Thank you.😊

Have you done a test??????

I heard you wonder about trying a drop in pred the other day - this is why not!!!!

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to PMRpro

Don't rub it in!😀 Didn't drop anyway - this is nothing like the pain of PMR. Was sick and had a massive arthritis flare. Feeling weak but better now.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Constance13

Mmmm - but you NEED the pred for your body to cope with the stress. And really - Sick Day Rules should apply,

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to PMRpro

As mentioned above - wouldn't be surprised if it was covid This was different to anything else I have gone through in the 10 years of PMR.

Just in case, we are isolating (as we do anyway) and I have read the covid advice and am acting accordingly. Better safe than sorry! Not too worried as we have both had 3rd jab.

So sorry dear Constance! There are so many nasty opportunist bugs flying about. This doesn’t mean it’s going to be a bad year. It means that every day it’s going to get better. Blacked out needs the doctor though. Is it the sudden drop in blood pressure without warning? Cuddle up in bed, safest place right now. 💕

Jackoh profile image
Jackoh in reply to Constance13

Yes a difficult year for most, I feel for different reasons. Been tied up a lot with my mum who has had to be admitted to nursing home. Lots of fun and games there!! I’m ok Constance , a bit sad I haven’t been able to reply to anyone until today and I still can’t post any new posts- haven’t got permission to do so! 😂 apparently for some reason. So missed the Christmas and New Year best wishes.

Take care Constance and rest up. Do hope you’ll feel more like yourself soon. Love Jackiexx

Just catching up Constance. Sorry for bad start to2022. Wishing you a quick resolution and better health. Don't forget the blackout when you see your consultant just because you are over it.

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to cycli

Thanks cycli. Much better now. Must admit the blackout was a bit unusual (I've had them before) - I was 'out' for 3 or 4 minutes, which I am told is not good.

Just caught up with your situation Constance and am hoping you are feeling better….and that you see a medic soon 🤞All good wishes, 2022 can still be a good year 🌺xx

Thanks! Whatever it is/was has left me knackered. Unfortunately "it" has caused my arthritis to flare and, once again, left me practically unable to move.

What a delightful way to start my "year of hope".

Sound like a winging idiot - probably because I am!😏😂 It's early morning and I am not alive yet.👵🏻 I'll get there.

🍹🥃🍺 Maybe these would help.😂😂

Nextoneplease profile image

You a winging idiot? Never! You buoy me up with your positive attitude 😊

I’m another one barely compos mentis in the mornings though 😂

Sorry your arthritis is so bad - hope it improves soon xx

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to Nextoneplease

I've taken my own advice - 🥃.😂🤪 Mind you my glasses are only 2 inches high (bought specially) as I like only "shorts". I limit myself to 2 per day.

Nextoneplease profile image
Nextoneplease in reply to Constance13

I find most alcohol makes my various PMR and arthritic pains worse 😢 But I do love small dessert wine glasses of white wine or champagne 🍾🥂 We were bought two bottles of Taittinger at new year - only one left 😊 Campari is my spirit of choice…..on rare occasions such as birthdays. Never drink more than one half measure of alcohol a day though.

Feel I need to make some plans for 2022, even if it’s only films to watch. My diary has never been so empty- guess we’re mostly in the same boat 🤷‍♀️x
