Given that Traditional Chinese medicine is the oldest, continually used system of medicine in the world, I wonder what traditional treatment is recommended for PMR / GCA or indeed what modern treatment they use?

I doubt we’ll ever know the full answer to that, it’s not as common amongst Asian communities as it is within those of north European descent.
This article implies that the guidelines used were in accordance with ACR (American College of Rheumatology) - so same as EULAR (European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology/ BSR (British Society for Rheumatology) et al - but only covers very few patients -

My only experience with TCM is two men with different types of cancer who used it along with Western treatment, and both believed it gave them a much better quality of life while they dealt with both the disease and allopathic treatment. Both died eventually, but one of them was up a ladder painting his house just a couple of days before, and both lived longer than expected, one by several years (the painter).
I know that it is very potent and you need to tell your doctor if you are trying anything else. My godson was helped with his terrible eczema with it. I have no other close experiences.
