Went out for a Chinese meal last night (carb and sugar overload) with some old workmates. Threw caution to the wind and had 2 large glasses of wine. What a mistake!! Couldn’t sleep and feel so stiff and painful today. Was a lovely evening but NEVER AGAIN!! Just going to sit and watch the royal wedding. At least it’s an excuse to do nothing. Lol.👸🏻👸🏻

The sauces have a particular sheen and texture. If you use soy sauce and ginger etc at home it has a fresh taste and is thinner usually. It's used to bring a highly savoury umami taste. T makes me feel fatigued and bloated.

Don’t know if it’s the same for everyone Louisa but I can’t tolerate it the same. Mind you I’m on methotrexate as well. So have to be careful.

I go very well with alcohol. It does give me a lift which I hope is not too worrying! I have not become a loan drinker yet though.

Can't tolerate it - I do occassionally have a glass of wine or two - but I pay for it - even a small amount. And I do like a glass of wine (though would only ever had it on maybe a Saturday night). Sometimes I just look longingly at a nice glass of white - just something about it!! ha - I keep it now for a very occasional treat - in the knowledge that I WILL pay for it with even worse fatigue and pain!!! So going to Brya Adams concert tonight - yes I will have a small something but I will severely pay for both the concert and the glass or two of something nice!! But I took tomorrow off work - so tht will be good!

Hi , I did the same on Friday evening, only i had an Indian plus two glasses of vino. Next day you would of thought I’d been out on the tiles!! But it was great at the time xx

Curry is basically a western term. A spiced sauce is often called gravy. In fact in the UK, Bangladeshi anglicised food is the most common. Of course there other Asian restaurants including Indian and Pakistani that offer anglicised versions. Going for an Indian (or Italian or chinese) is the British culture and vocabulary I am afraid. Hence the success of the goodness gracious me comedy sketch...going for an English.

OMG! So hilarious! The wisdom I learn on this PMR etc. site!!! The best. It’s good to laugh at the English and we Americans are so judgmental. (I get these corrections from my kids - I never thought about them before.) Good to find the humor. Americans have a long way to go...back!

When I go to New York again in September, I am sure I will find plenty of expressions to laugh at!!!! My daughter who has lived there for the last fifteen years will put me right. You have such diverse cultures and food, reflecting immigration. Which is how we got our more recent 20th C. 'Indian's,'Chinese' etc. Although French Hugenots brought their cuisine to London at the end of 17th C., when they fled France after Edict of Nantes was revoked.We were not so lazy with our speech then.🍮🍷( bottoms up) English expression meaning......

It's not wrong but it's funny when ideas and actions are turned on there heads. I have literally been in a group of people acting like that in Asian restaurants. It's just become cultural shorthand. We don't tend to say I am going for a French or a german.its just interesting how things get to shorthand. When we use Indian in the UK we might be taking about Bangladeshi or Pakistani food that is short-handed to Indian due to history and culture. I love living in the UK because even small towns have access to food from across the world. I could eat from a different continent most nights. Fantastic.

"Had an Indian" is just a short/lazy way of saying I went for an Indian meal - which in the UK usually extends a LONG way beyond "curry" as Poopadoop has explained.
