So I’m on 450mg if Pregablin and 40mg of Amitripyline along with an anti viral. What I was wondering is do these drugs also help with PMR? I only ask as I’ve been trying to reduce my steroids and have never got below 12mg. Well my this week I dropped from 11mg, yes you read that right, to 10mg and I’ve not noticed any increase in pain levels, I just hope this continues but wonder what will happen when I stop taking the Pregablin and Amitripyline! I take these for Post Herpetic Neuralgia and they have eased the symptoms but not fully relieved them.
Just wondered……..: So I’m on 450mg if Pregablin and... - PMRGCAuk

There is no real reason why they should - unless some of the PMR pain is due to poor blood flow to nerves. But if it is improving the post-herpetic neuralgia it may be that the stress of that has been "feeding" the PMR - I have seen a few people who had their hip replacement done and subsequently managed to steadily reduce their pred dose.
Hi Griggser - You just never know 😉 if it helps after all you’ve been that’s great. Long may it continue to help 🙏🏼Hope you are improving?

Hi Griggster. I have no proof but I think being on Amitriptyline has helped me on my very slow descent. In the evening, I take the Amitriptyline about 7 pm. It has helped me relax and my PMR symptoms which often just rear their head a little at about 5/6pm seem to disappear. 💐
I doubt that the pregabalin or amitriptyline are helping with the PMR. Some people believe that shingles may be related to PMR/GCA. I take pregabalin (much smaller dose than you) and the antiviral. I don’t plan on stopping the antiviral until I am off immunosuppressive meds, or until I have no more shingles symptoms.
In the five years before my diagnosis with PMR I used Pregabalin, Amitriptyline, Tramadol and a patch - forget the name. While they helped with sleep and sometimes some types of pain, they did not help with the PMR pain. The Rheumy i saw in July (who wanted me to come off Pred completely so I could be tested for inflammation markers) said the Pred was probably covering up the other pain as well as the PMR pain. To each his own.
Interesting Griggser, I'm on the same dose of Pregabalin and 60mg Amitriptyline for PHN. Have been wondering the sane thing as you
