Part and parcel of your immune system being suppressed to stop it attacking itself. Antibiotics won’t help either. Lots of remedies at the pharmacy. I was told to avoid sugar too.
That's why iam on antibiotics. The dr treated me before a culture so I've been on four already.
Antibiotics can sometimes cause thrush.
I have very frequently over the last two years
Yes soon after I started on prednisolone. The GP had also given me estrogen gel. I think it was a combined effect.
Antibiotics can remove the good organisms that keep thrush at bay and with the immunosuppressant effects of Pred on top it can be a perfect storm. Make sure your blood sugars are not raised; the thrush fungus loves that. Eating a very low carb diet helped me stop getting thrush more than anything. Avoid washing your privates directly with soap because that removes the protective mucus too aggressively and never use antibac cleansing products.
Had oral thrush a couple of times at beginning when on high doses of Pred….but cleared with usual mouthwash …never to return.
It is a common problem when on pred. I notice from another of your replies you have been on a lot of antibiotics as well and that is also a high risk factor for developing thrush. They upset the balance of the microbiome - both internally and on the skin/in the mouth and that lets all sorts of less friendly organisms to come out to play.
Your GP should be able to provide you with antifungal medications appropriate for where you have thrush symptoms. And Snazzy has given some very pertinent advice.
I usually get thrush after taking antibiotics. Never had it whilst on pred for 4 yrs, unless that is after antibiotics that tend to wipe out your normal flora. The thrush (yeast) that is there then out grows the bacteria that has been killed by the antibiotics. Eat some natural yoghurt to help restore your mouth and gut flora and if needed take a dose of anti-thrush OTC medication. I hope you recover soon. I hope you recover quickly. Such a nuisance.
It is the antibiotics, well know n for causing thrush as they kill the good bacteria as well as the bad. Natural live yoghurt is what you should eat whilst taking antibiotics as it helps to replace the good bacteria
I get it so often I have to take something to avoid it.
Hi.yes I had it alot in the last year.drs.gave me a mouth had several lots, but finally it cleared up.thank goodness.good luck.
Just a thought. I have always treated oral thrush by gargling several times daily with some warm water and a couple of drops of pure tea tree oil. In fact, this is my go to remedy if I have a tickle in my throat. I used to get tonsillitis, but never after I discovered tea tree. When I had vaginal thrush , I ditched the canesten cream prescribed and used to sit in a bowl of warm water with tea tree oil added. Not for everyone of course, but always worked for me. If you try it, get pure tea tree oil and don't swallow it....just gargle. Good luck
More likely from the antibiotics. When I was working as a midwife we found most women needed a script for canestan after treatment with antibiotics
