Covid vaccine

Hi,

I just wondered if there is a particular vaccination which is not recommended for people on steroids or people with PMR and if there is a particular one that is considered best. Any thoughts on AstraZeneca? Maybe this has been discussed but I've missed it.. Not great at concentration on these steroids. If someone with the medical knowledge knows that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Yes it had been discussed - and the consensus of opinion from all sources it there is no significant difference between any of them in offer at the moment.

The only point to remember is that if your immune system is compromised you are less likely to get as much protection as someone’s who isn’t.

Unless things are different in Ireland I doubt you’ll have choice of vaccine anyway.

As someone with a compromised immune system you should have already had your first dose surely?

No I haven't had any call to get it. Maybe they don't consider it compromised at 7mg..

The recommended vaccine is the one that you are offered and gets into your arm first! That comes from a few of the vaccinologists and epidemiologists who appear regularly on TV and in the media including Chris Whitty and Patrick Valance in the UK. None are contraindicated.

About to get my first one on Sunday here in OZ which is relatively 'free' of COVID and I feel very fortunate given so many people around the world are in dire straits regarding the extent of the spread in their countries. I will be VERY HAPPY to have any version- here OZ manufactured AstraZeneca. I expect some side effects but they must be 'better' than the alternative !!
