Thanks to everyone who replied to my question regarding my difficulty with speaking to my GP. I am very grateful and overwhelmed by you all taking the time to advise and to share your experience. It’s been an eye-opener to find how different practices vary, the procedures they use, some good some bad. I’m not a very assertive person but when I’m feeling up to it I intend to broach the matter of change with my practice. All the support here helps so much - makes me feel I am not alone 🙂

Re my GP access question

A letter to the Practice Manager might be helpful & ask her/him to try ringing themselves at the appointed hour & to keep trying until they succeed.....
They may then rethink their options! 😉
Sounds good lol. I just got through at long last by breaking the rules and phoning at 9.50am. I said the reason I was phoning at that time was because this was my second day of trying in the one hour slot. I said I thought the system wasn’t working and why not have a later slot for routine appointments at least. She said they were told by the GP what to do and I actually felt sorry for her as she’s new and much more helpful and pleasant than some longer serving ones. Dr phoned me back really quickly then (!) and I got prescription but it was enough of an effort to get the right antibiotic, ie a different one than last time and one which was more likely to work, so I felt unable to pursue the contact problem as well. That’s for another time 😥
