Just wondered if any of you fellow PMR sufferers have tried CBD oil and if so did it help at all .

I have spent quite a lot of money on CBD products both trying to aid sleep with drops under the tongue and cream for muscle pain. None of it worked for me. Some people claim it does. Could it be mind over matter! Or is it just a trendy money making scam?

I vape CBD liquid which is not a thing many would like to do and I was wary as I'm a non-smoker. In the interval between PMR diagnosis and commencing steroid therapy I began to vape CBD after doing some research.

After being unable to rise from the bed or chair unaided and climbing the stairs almost an impossibility, after vaping the CBD I was able to do all this without help. Of course it didn't solve the problem, nothing works like prednisolone, but for me it was evidence that CBD did modulate my level of inflammation.

It would be wrong to imply that CBD vaping at that level could have any impact on the PMR inflammation sufficient to allow any reduction of steroid dosage.

However, I do use it at night. I have had the habit since my days as a young soldier of waking about 2 hours after first going to sleep, a 2 hour stretch was the only permitted time allocated to sleeping! Pre PMR it was not really a problem, I could easily just drift off again. But since the advent of my PMR I found that the slightly elevated level of nocturnal pain and stiffness made me agitated and unable to get back to sleep.

Vaping for a few minutes with cbd liquid relaxes me enough to ensure normal sleep. I have noted the research on CBD and Covid-19 infection and as a result I have included some CBD sub-lingual spray as part of my "emergency Covid kit", the other component being a spare supply of predisolone as per the NHS Sick Day Rules for those already on prednisole therapy.

I most certainly would not want to be vaping anything if I had any lung inflammation!

Please don't take any of this as a recommendation to use CBD as I do or in fact in any other way, it just reflects my own experience regarding your question.

I used CBD oil daily for a couple of years before PMR - I was able to come off anti dependent meds using it, I slept like a baby and felt really well. Sadly it has had absolutely zero effect with PMR - I ha e tried the new CBD patches which help a little when applied to my carpal tunnel but it’s only minimal x

Yes, it did work for me around the 6 mg reduction, which is the most difficult reduction. It didn't help with previous higher dose reductions and I didn't need it with lower dose reductions. It reduced the pain and made reducing below 6 mg easier. With that said, not all CBD oil is the same quality. Since it's not a regulated industry there are a lot of scams out there. You have to make sure the company allows you to see lab tests. If they don't that means that their CBD oil is not pure but blended with other oils, lowering the amount of CBD concentration. Also make sure there is no THC. I only bought from one producer who allowed the customers access to their lab testing results. I used 2400 mg full spectrum hemp extract. You may as well try it, it might or might not work for you. You have nothing to lose. Here's a link that might help you decide on the best product for you. medium.com/@ministryofhemp/...

I wouldn't try the cream, that didn't work.

I tested out CBD oils, gummies, and topical creams from about five companies. Nothing seemed to have any impact on my PMR but my main goal was help with osteoarthritis pain and stress/anxiety. CBD oil under the tongue has definitely helped for those issues. I buy from a company that has independent lab results right on their website. Our bodies are so individual I feel that you never know until you try.
