Hi there, I am a week post PMR diagnosis and am on 15mg of prednisolone. I am studying for a Masters in Personalised Nutrition so am keen to use nutrition and lifestyle as an adjunct to treatment. I am wondering whether anyone uses black cumin oil to treat the inflammation associated with PMR? Thanks!

black cumin oil (nigella sativa oil), PMR and inflammation
Welcome, I do put turmeric in my food when cooking..and when I first saw my Rheumatologist he said, don't eat too much red meat..it 's inflammatory, and add Turmeric to your food......
Hi - your training sounds fascinating - I am just consulting a functional practitioner about the best way to encourage healing - mainly based on nutrition and exercise. I have not heard anything about black cumin oil, sadly, but have been advised to incorporate herbs into the diet re. the Scarborough Diet. The more I can do for myself the better and it gives me the feeling of taking some action which is always good. If you come across anything during your training please share it - that would be great.
I started on 15mg Pred and have gone through the first reduction to 12.5 mg. - so only diagnosed in May. Best way to take this is as it comes I think. Different people seem to have different experiences - but it is great to share experience and knowledge.
Thanks Miserere, I will keep the forum updated. The cumin affects the production of cytokines which then reduces inflammation. There are robust studies where cumin oil has reduced inflammation. None specifically in relation to polymyalgia. But as PMR is an auto immune condition likely caused by inflammation, this could be likely.

This site is usually quite comprehensive and reliable.
The claim is obviously made that it "boosts the immune system" and that is usually taken as a reason NOT to use a substance in autoimmune disease and especially if you are taking any immunosuppressive medication - such as pred.
I would be interested in links to the robust studies you mention.
a quick dive in google found some studies going on.Here’s one:

I have been taking it for GCA
I believe we need to add black pepper to help with absorption of turmeric
Just wondering how you got on with the black seed oil. Did it help?
