Hi and welcome.

It can be a side effect of steroids but doesn't affect everyone. Is it all the time?

Hi thank you for replying. Unfortunately it does seem to affect me nearly all day it can be very frustrating and sometimes funny when I'm trying to thread a needle I like to craft

You learn a new thing every day. I thought my minor tremor was old age. Now I can blame pred!

Yes I shake a lot and it makes me unsteady, I cling to the bannisters going upstairs. Also difficult to play the piano as normal. Sent by Beethovenite.

I take 15mg prednisolone a day and have shaking, I have just had a telephone appointment with my consultant, who told me it isn’t a recognised side effect of the medication.

He's talking rubbish.

my.clevelandclinic.org/heal...

Tremors can be caused by a variety of other conditions or lifestyle factors. What separates them is the timing of the tremor. It is important to know if the tremors occur at rest, with sustained posture, or with certain movements.

Drugs. There are several drugs that can cause tremor:

Albuterol (an asthma drug sold under the brand name Proventil® or Ventolin®).

Corticosteroids (like prednisone).

Lithium (especially when combined with an antidepressant).

Reglan®.

Cyclosporine.

Antiarrhythmic drugs (like Cordarone®, Procanbid®).

Alcohol (chronic use).

Tegretol® (a seizure drug, especially when combined with lithium).

Nicotine.

Dilantin® (a seizure drug).

Cocaine.

Ritalin®.

Sudafed®.

Certain antidepressants like Paxil®, Prozac®, Zoloft®, Pamelor®, and others.

If the Cleveland website mentions it it is good enough for me - but it is listed in almost all lists of adverse effects of corticosteroids.

University of California does too:

ucsfhealth.org/education/fa...

although they suggest it is a side effect that must be brought to the attention of your doctor immediately. Hum - not much point with yours ...

Thank you PMRpro, I didn’t feel able to disagree with him. He told me to speak to my GP about it.

These doctors who talk a load of hot air to get out of doing something themselves seem to be alive and kicking today!!!!!

My GP told me I have to try to build a good relationship with him, but based on conversations like that I’m afraid it’s not possible! It’s worrying.

Can I take the liberty of asking you if Prednisolone can lower the effectiveness of the Covid vaccination.

Possibly - no-one knows what effect it will have on the immune response. I imagine they may check the responses developed by people on pred at some point - I hope they do. It is very likely that we will develop some immunity - and given the peaks are said to be in the 90%+ region I don't think it is unreasonable to hope we will get better than the response that is generally regarded as acceptable for a vaccine to be approved, 50-60%

But once a large proportion of the population are vaccinated, the incidence of the virus in society will plummet and together with other measures (masks and distancing) that is how it will almost disappear making it less likely you will meet it in the first place.
