Hi All, thank you for your lovely messages and PMs. Yesterday was a very, very difficult day for me since I had my first Covid jab. An opportunity my husband didn't get by a matter of days / weeks. Had my son not been with me I would have driven away. The advantage of my hysteria meant I jumped the queue!
Have had emergency admission to hospital for heart, just took overnight to stabilise. My fault. In my grief I forgot my meds!
I am posting as I really feel unwell today. I had Oxford jab. Like I have Covid symptoms again and also woke up with pre diagnosis PMR aches and pains which I haven't had for a long, long while. I have been on 6.5mgs for about eighteen months and haven't increased despite all that has been going on, since there was no need to.
Any advice would be great.
Funeral is on 22nd Feb. Advice on predicting for that day welcome too.

You have very much been in all Our Thoughts & Prayers.
I’m so sorry you had to go into hospital, it is so important that you take your Meds regularly & perhaps a Reminder on your phone may help.
You have done extremely well to remain on your current dose during all that has gone on.
Do you have a Consultant/Rheumy Nurse that you can ring for advice re your Pred Dose? A lot of people need to increase their dose in times of stress & grief. Have you ever looked at The Sick Day Rules, you may find that helpful but l think you need to speak to your GP or Rheumatologist for clear advice on your Pred Dose during this period.
I really think you probably need to increase especially for the funeral but l’d like a Medical Opinion first especially with you feeling like you did with Covid, it’s such a lot for you physically & mentally to deal with......
Dear Marilyn, Mrs N is right you have been in all our thoughts.
I can give no official medical advice but I can pass on an observation from a friend working in medicine. She had covid and on having the vaccination had covid symptoms again, as did a colleague of hers. She has observed that people who have had covid do have these side effects when they have the vaccine, she believes that it is because your body recognises the virus and reacts. The symptoms didn't last long.
Wishing you all the best and hope the worst will be over soon.
It was said in the ZOE video the other day that most people who have had Covid react to the first shot as if it were the second - because the infection has produced an immune response already. It's expected people will react more to the second.
I'm trying to prepare for the second shot as I had a bad reaction to the first - I've not had Covid so don't really know why. Is it a good idea to take an antihistamine tablet before the next jab as I've seen recommended, especially for someone with penicillin allergy?
Echo all MrsN has said.....and definitely consider a slight increase in Pred for funeral (if agreed by R nurse).
The day will be difficult, but you will get through it, partly in a blur probably, but also because (if like me) your mother’s instincts will kick in and you’ll be more worried about your children’s feelings.
You probably have processed your husband’s death (devastating though it is) better than his children - well maybe not better, but differently. Difficult to explain, and if you don’t what I mean at the moment, you will.
Just concentrate on yourself at the moment...plenty of TLC - even if you have to supply it.
The 22nd will come, you WILL get through, and in someways it is relief when it’s done....not in a negative but a positive way.
Thinking of you and sending virtual hugs - (avoiding the bad arm of course) ❤️
Sending you love and strength Marilyn for all the mountains you are having to climb right now. If you think a bit more Pred will help you get through, then have a bit more Pred. 🌷I will be thinking of you on February 22 and I hope it comforts you a little. 💙
Left a message and someone rang me back. Totally unhelpful. Basically told me to ring GP. Won't bother as I only get to speak to nurse anyway. Spoke to nurse yesterday to see if I can have 2 doses of valium. One for 22nd and the other to try out before 22nd since I don't want to be zonked out on the day.I was just taken to A&E again with racing heart rate again. This time it righted itself eventually. I was sent home and told to take another 2.5mgs of bisoprolol. Will give this a go and see if this calms me at all. I am desperate to get heart rate stabilised before funeral, so that Wayne is the focal point and not me!
Ah Marilyn, such a difficult time for you. Am thinking of you and sending well wishes, prayers and hugs now and for 22nd. Take comfort and strength from us all here.
I have been thinking about you , I’m so sorry you’ve been in hospital too .
I’ve read several accounts of people feeling unwell after the vaccine.
I did up my dose for a month in total, and am reducing again slowly.
I think you may need a little support for maybe 3/5 days with a boost of pred , and again on the 22nd to help you get through. Sending you lots of love and hugs Marilyn. xxx
