Multiple booster jabs

I had my flu jab four days ago and haven't been feeling well since. ( Stiff, achy, headache, feeling very weak, mild palpitations, mild nausea etc.) I've booked my Covid booster for four weeks later and have also been invited to book new RSV vaccination, for which I intend to leave a further couple of weeks as advised. Has anyone had all three recently and, if so, had any side effects? I'm keen to make sure I'm protected from all the 'baddies' out there, but concerned they'll make me continue to feel this rough for weeks. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Have you taken any paracetamol following your flu jab to help with symptoms?

I was advised many moons ago [about 30 years from a very good practice nurse] to take paracetamol for at least 48 hours after any vaccine... and always have done, before during and after GCA/and Pred.

Never had an issue apart from from a slightly tender arm at vaccine site - and that varies on who is actually wielded the syringe.. if done properly no problem..

I get plenty of Paracetamol in my CoCodamol! I had Covid and flu jab together last year with no ill effects. I wondered if this year's flu jab different, but it must 'just be me' feeling so rough..I'll go ahead with Covid and RSV and hope for the best.

last year in the course of a few months or so I had my Covid jab, my flu jab and my 2 shingles jabs without any cause for concern.

This year I have had my Covid jab today and will have my Flu jab on Saturday.

I think I am too young for the RSV vaccination.

If you were eligible you should have had an invitation.. this year’s one off campaign - ages 75-79.

I responded quite badly to the RSV jab - soreness, red patch on skin which are known side effects. It got worse after I took my methotrexate - more painful and spreading redness - so doctor has put me on antibiotics to be on the safe side so will miss next mex dose and postpone next week’s flu jab.

You should give MTX a couple of weeks break after vaccine..often spoken about on here.

Thanks it was useful advice. Rhematology nurses keen I keep on the MX because only just prescribed for relapsing PMR. It’s really difficult to navigate the advice. If I paused, would be six weeks because of separate flu and Covid jabs and two week intervals. Might miss a week after the Covid jab.

Hmm.. that does make it a bit difficult- having so many so close together. Others just do a week..so that better than nothing.

If it is relapsing PMR then I see no reason not to just patiently wait for all the jabs to be done and then get into the MTX properly. It isn't guaranteed to work, it isn't to work as a DMARD as it does in inflammatory arthritis to prevent structural damage like erosion and it takes a LONG time to really show an effect, The PMR is a pain - I have relapsing PMR too but I'd get other things sorted first. MTX was no good for me though - I couldn't do ANYTHING after 3 weeks, the fatigue was overwhelming.

I think you’re right but Rhematology keen for me to plough on with the m.Mix. Argument was that not pausing or not pausing evened out after 3 months but suspect that was because effects of jab wore off.

I had the RSV vaccination a couple of weeks ago without any problem. Four days ago I had both the flu and covid vaccinations, electing to have both in one arm. I’m pleased to say that, again, I didn’t have any difficulties (apart from a sore arm for a day).

Hi Countrykitten, sorry you are not feeling too good. I had both covid and flu at the same time, one in each arm and no problems just a bit sore for a day in the covid arm. I have my RSV booked for a couple of weeks. I realise I was blessed. Everyone is different and our reactions are all different. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks. I had Covid and Flu jabs together last year with no ill effects, but haven't been too well this year with persistent ear infection and septic cyst on back so maybe all too much for my poor old body! Covid booked for three weeks time and fingers crossed!

Hope you're feeling a bit better now. It does seem to affect us all differently and depending on how we are feeling at the time of the jab.I still don't fancy catching Covid, or Flu for that matter, so side effects or not I'll keep on with the jabs.

Me too, I’m immune suppressed so have to.

Wonder why they think only 75 to 79 year old’s are vulnerable to RSV. Doesn’t make any sense other than cost to the health service.

I’m currently on a fast-ish 40 to 0mg of Pred over 3 months. Tomorrow will be day 1 of 7 at 20mg. I’ve asked the GP practice if I can delay until I get to 5mg, or better still 0mg. Hope my adrenal glands play ball, I was told there’s a golden 3 month window to get off steroids.

It will be introduced for all those over 75 years of age in time… this current round is a one-off to vaccinate those most likely to require hospitalisation. That appears to be the main driver for most vaccines.

Whether in time the age limit will be reduced remains to be seen.

My husband celebrated his 80th birthday this year with a prostrate cancer diagnosis 🙈 so he just misses the RSV vaccination by a couple of months!

Sorry to hear that- on both counts.
