Just before I go to bed: low carb is recommended to reduce the risk of weight gain and the development of steroid induced diabetes. Not NO carb, but for some of us it may be very low carb. Removing processed carbs from the menu reduces both carbs and salt intake - and also take out any added sugar and restrict fruit and root veg. No-one says NO anything, but you will find out for yourself how low you need to go if you want to lose/maintain weight.

The Patient Information Leaflet for Prednisolone says to avoid liquorice. It’s not something I eat often, but every time I re-read it I really want a bag of Liquorice Allsorts! And it’s surprising how many fruit and herbal infusions include liquorice!

Many people believe that some foods will increase inflammation, and if true, those foods seem to vary by the individual. For me, I was diagnosed pre-diabetic at the same time I was diagnosed with PMR. So for me, my concern was with blood glucose. And I didn't just want to hope everything would come out all right; I wanted to know what the prednisone was doing to my blood sugar. So went out and got an inexpensive glucose meter and started testing my reaction to the foods I was eating. That quickly led me to eliminate breads, cereals, rice and starchy foods. I even followed Keto for a couple of years.

Need to point out though that the glucose meters themselves are almost always cheap - it is the disposables that they make their money on! Usually the cheaper the meter, the more expensive the test strips.
