I received my letter telling me I was high risk so I should self isolate for 12 weeks. I had nobody to do my shopping so I registered online and, this week, received a food parcel courtesy of the Government. Whilst I appreciate the gesture I have a couple of health problems that effect my diet, diabetes for instance, so I am unable to eat most of the food I was sent. I have also made arrangements now to get my shopping done. Does anyone know how to cancel these food parcels? I haven't been able to find away to do so and I really don't want to receive food I can't eat and which could help someone else.

Government food parcels
Hi. I had a phone call today re shielded help. But it's one of those you can't ring but you can have the number just in case it's my phone that's blocked it.
03333050466
I would try the local council website as the bloke in the phone said they would supply extra help to me.
I have been concerned Re a food package arriving and containing high sugar/carb in as staples. I too have diabetes and so far have managed. If you find a way of cancelling them can you post on this thread please??
You can now phone your supermarket to get deliveries. The gov have finally shared the details.
No idea I'm afraid - are they to be regular or was it a "to keep you going for now"? I remember thinking it wouldn't be much use in this house either - except the teabags! Same at the resort we use in Malta, they do a welcome parcel if you want one - milk and teabags I'd use. Grotty bread, jam, sugar, instant coffee - never in a million years!
It's weekly, unfortunately. I can see myself being inundated with food I can't eat.
On page 26 of today's Times (Thursday April 2nd) there is a list of the contents for anyone interested. Sorry but not the knowledge on how to put it on the screen.
Maybe some of you neighbors would be willing to swap things you don't need for things you do need.
If you google ‘Gov.uk/vulnerable’, the page comes up to register. One of the first questions is ‘have you been contacted by NHS to say you are vulnerable ?’ If you say yes
Continue to register and there is a question do have have dietary restrictions. I presume ‘yes’ will bring up a window to list them.
I was registering because Sainsbury’s need this to get on their list., you have to a current holder of Nectar card.
I had just completed it, sat down with a cuppa and read your post. 😱
I don’t need food parcels just want to order and get deliveries, or a click and collect slot.
The last page says if you want to change anything, start again from the beginning.
Within 15 mins I had a text from Sainsbury’s to say they had me down for a vulnerable person and would be in touch tomorrow.
I said ‘no’ to getting NHS letter, so probably wouldn’t have got a parcel anyway. Very good for those who can’t get other help.
Tesco are useless at the moment. I normally get my deliveries from them, have one coming on 15 April that was booked 2 weeks ago. None available since, also Click and collect.
Unable to contact them by phone after a lot of spiel, it clicks off, same with local store.
I shopped most days at Sainsbury’s before picking up grandson after school.
How our lives have changed.
Hi I said "yes" to the dietary needs being vegetarian and having diabetes but no list came up nor space to write it. I actually filled the form in twice and put my previously misplaced NHS number in to ensure I went through the system. It will be interesting to see the contents if I get one.
I put the contact details for the Regional offices of local resilience forums that are coordinating this a few message above.
I self-registered last night. Nothing’s happened yet. I don’t need food parcels etc, but I do need a letter for work. After three months, GP is starting to make noises about not signing me off again, so anything that would enable me to keep away from that major source of stress would be very welcome.
Hi Mickam
After you register the following page says to go and fill it all out again if your needs change. You could either change the dietary requirements or the need for help.
Best wishes
Rusty
Perhaps if you get non perishable food you cannot eat you could donate it to a food bank. They are running short of everything.
Try to get whoever delivers your parcels to find someone who would like what you cannot eat - or take it to the local food bank.
That's ok but you are supposed to get them because you're isolated and don't have anyone to do any shopping. If someone can take the boxes to the bank then they could shop too. Many food banks arent staffed anymore, certainly the ones near me have not had donations since the hoarding began, now no food so no staff.
Must be a contact though?
I tried my local one but no joy....given that I was isolated and the shops were empty I didn't want to block the line for donations. Now there's food in the shops I might try and ring and see if I can make a £10 donation which is what I give in the supermarket when I go in, in goods. It's worthwhile saying here if you're going and there's a food bank box thing if you got a buy one get one free or something like that could you put the extra one in during and after 😉. A few years ago when I had to stop work I was £5 away from getting food from my local one.
Donated cash online. The one near me is open Fridays, but has taken the load of a couple of others run by that group, for a couple of hours so unwanted food boxes might be welcome then. I suggest check local ones online.
