This is the link to the JCVI document issued this week:

They obviously feel that the, as yet unpublished, data indicates that it is advisable for patients on immunosuppressive medication to have the vaccine - as it is also recommended we do with the annual flu vaccine.

Thanks for this. I asked Rheumatologist yesterday, and she said having the vaccine was recommended. Have already had flu jab, also advised

I was sent a link from my son in Singapore stating that Astro Zinenca are working on a new treatment of injected antibodies for the immune compromised. The actual information will not load , but perhaps someone more computer literate than I could discover more. My interpretation is that this could be an alternative treatment to the vaccine ??

A bit more information on the title of article might helps us look for it.

I think it is . He’s just sent a screen shot , but I can’t enlarge the writing. All I can make out is that it’s Phase III of Monoclonal something and that 1,000 people are taking part in this trial. Sorry I can’t be of more assistance. I hope Dorset Lady sees this reply , as I’m just about to try to catch up on missed sleep. It just looked hopeful. Kind Regards to you both, Tahiri

Thanks for this, again really interesting reading.

Do we know yet whether the vaccine is a weakened vision or dead one, like th yearly flu jab ??

It’s NOT live.

In most cases they don't even seem to be using the actual virus. The Canadian one now in third stage trials uses "virus-like particles" ! This site tells us what each of the candidates is using:newsinteractives.cbc.ca/cor...

Exactly. It is just a jigsaw piece that trains the immune syste to recognise the real thing. One is using a weakened cold virus as vector but the BioNTech one is lipid nanoparticles - and so is the Moderna one I think.

The lipid NPs are only the transport mechanism for the strand of messenger RNA that instructs cells to manufacture part of the Coronavirus spike protein. The lipid (fat) sphere carries the mRNA into our cells. It’s our immune system that is then trained to seek and destroy the virus by identifying its spikes. This is a totally novel way of generating a vaccine. The

I have already said repeatedly that it isn't a live or even weakened virus.

I read it that they are still looking at it, that currently they don't know impact but suggest immuno suppressed may respond less well to vaccine- whatever that means. Though there was a doctor, whose teenage son has had a transplant, on tv saying she would want her son to have it. Naively, perhaps, I am wondering why the concern since the vaccine is not live. Also they hint at family of vulnerables being vaccinated?

We are waiting on more info from Addenbrooks, since OH has had transplant. They are very thorough and totally focussed on immuno suppressed, so will really research it all based on this group. Will share anything we hear once we do.

The immune system is stimulated by the invader to produce antibodies - the bigger the reaction, the more antibodies and the better you are protected. If you are immunosuppressed it won't necessarily react as much so the protection may not be as good. Some immunologists have been concerned about the new shingles vaccine - if the immune system reacts a lot, it could make the disorder flare. So presumably that is the concern with a new vaccine.
