What is this country coming to.

My grandson who is 26yrs old is a HGV / Articulated lorry driver. On Friday night he stopped at a service station in Stafford, a car was parked behind him. The man walked away from his car and called a man who had walked out just before Dan over, and saw him punch him in the stomach so he thought I will just watch what happens, then ran back to his car and drove off. Dan got into his truck as the attendant ran over and stopped him saying that the man had been stabbed. Dan held cloth to the stab wound until the paramedic arrived, he was worried about getting out to treat him in case the attacker came back. Dan told him not to worry as he had a crowbar with him so he treated him until the ambulance and police arrived. The police told him that they were amazed at how calm he was in dealing with the incident. Well he is 6ft , built like a rugby player, got his HGV and Articulated license by the age of 19yrs , you would not mess with him. As yet we do not know how badly injured the man was.

How awful for him, you just never know what’s around the corner, l’m glad he was able to help because sometimes it’s frightening to be the Good Samaritan.

Well Done Young Man 👏🏼

What a shock! I would be so proud of him. I guess there may eventually be a court case. There is CCTV everywhere.

This world can be so frightening, and nothing shocks anymore....

We all need someone like your grandson at times like that...he was so brave.....well done him!..

What troubled times we live in and what an awful experience for your grandson. He is obviously a very responsible and caring human being, with good intuition as well as being brave. You have every right to feel proud of him. Personally, I’ve always had a soft spot for rugby players!😊

However brave though, that must have been quite traumatic for him. As a witness to a violent crime he should be offered support. The police will be in touch and he should be able to find out what happened to the man who was stabbed. I’m sure it’s playing on his mind. He should be offered the chance to talk about it to someone if he needs to via Victim Support. If the police catch the guy who did it (I really hope they do), your grandson may have to go to court as a witness. In that case, the court service is very supportive. Hope all goes well.

I used to volunteer for Victim Support and Witness support - did/do you Nerak12?

I would have visited Whippetygirl’s grandson at home to talk it through ( if wanted of course) and supported him right through a trial as a Witness, in a private room away from everyone. I loved it - this will be available in his home town, all free. Big boys do cry and if they don’t they might need to.

Huge respect to him!

Hi Jane. That’s really interesting and well done you! Unfortunately, my experience of Victim Support has been as a victim. I have also come across them for work. I don’t volunteer at the moment, but a few years ago I was approached (via Victim Support)to become a volunteer with a charity which supports victims of homicide, but it was just before I developed PMR and I could not attend the training and then felt I couldn’t take more on board. I have done some work since with the Ministry of Justice on developing some strategies and guidelines.

Until next June when I finish my Diploma in Upholstery life is rather full, but after that I would like to offer my services again. Helping others is so rewarding and makes one realise that how ever awful life seems at times, there is always someone else who is having a harder time. Like when I was nursing, if I can get to the end of a day and can say “I’ve made a difference” I’ve always had a good day. 😀

I did the homicide training too. I agree it is a privilege to be with people at their darkest moments and make a difference.

I couldn’t cover a chair to save my life. I do admire these skills though. X

Well done to your grandson, it is a terrible world we live in sometimes. The victim will have been so glad to have had support until the medics arrived .

Your Grandson was a Good Samaritan and a very brave young man. Thankfully he remained unharmed.

My 23 year old Granddaughter was in Leeds city centre last week. It was quiet where she was in one of the shopping arcades when she came across this couple furiously arguing. The man towered above this small woman laden with shopping when he started attacking her. Hannah instinctively shouted over ‘leave her alone’. He did no more and ran over to my Granddaughter and put his face to hers (Covid) and hurled the most viscous verbal abuse including being a bitch and a whore.

Fortunately he didn’t touch her as a shop owner came out saying police were on their way. Immediately they arrived and Hannah legged it she was so scared.

By the time she got home shock had taken over and she was in floods of tears. We told her she did very well but not to do it again.

Doesn’t bear thing about what could have happened to her that day!

Thanks Jackoh.

They say fight or flight and she fought but wouldn’t recommend it these days. xxx
