Research needed. Several months ago I had pains in one hip then another then a knee and then my neck. Within a short time I was in agony, struggled with the stairs, and went from walking 18 holes carrying a golf bag to struggling to walk 200 yards. I sought medical advice and described my symptoms to one of my sisters who has had PMR for 2 years and is on Predisolene. My doctor wasn't 100%?sure it was PMR and sent me for blood tests. The inflammation Indicators were consistent with PMR. He prescribed Prednisolene but said the only way to be sure it was PMR was if I experienced immediate relief after taking the tablets for a few days. If I didn't experience this relief then it would mean there was something else wrong. It would also mean I would have to get weaned off the steroids if it was another problem. I spent a couple of days speaking to people and researching PMR and treatments. I spoke with several people about CBD oils (I have nothing to do with selling or marketing any Oils or medicines).
I was in such agony on one particular day that I sat with the steroid prescription on my desk along with all the research and decided if I could start taking the Oil that day I would give it a go - and if there was no benefit I would take the Steroids. I had to do something!
I took the oils and within 24-48 hours the relief was unbelievable - about 85% pain soreness relief.
Blood tests a month later were consistent with the inflammation reduction they would expect if I was on steroids.
I get some flare- ups for a day or two occasionally & slight soreness but nothing close to the pain I suffered before taking the CBD Oil. I am now walking 4 miles a day, cycling and do a bit of yoga happily.
I take the spray version in the mouth and there are several other ways of taking it. Hope this helps you and gets some research underway.

Lots of people over the years have tried CBD oil with very mixed results. I would say go get another dr to check your diagnosis. It doesnt sound like it is PMR but could be another issue that caused a temporary problem.
CBD oil is not an established independent treatment and if the vascular system is still inflamed then you leave yourself open to over issues including GCA, cardio vascular issues etc.
I have tried CBD oil to see if it helped sleep. It didn't and was really an expensive waste of money for me, though some find it helps sleep. Prednisolone isn't so bad at PMR doses and I would rather protect myself by using it and making minor lifestyle and dietary adjustments. If I was going to take CBD oil again I would want the THC component too, just to at least make it fun. 😁
I tried four different brands of CBD oil. Each time I gave it a good month or so to work. It didn’t do anything for me. I realize everybody is different but for me it was I waste of money. I really wanted it to work!
Shame your doctor wasn't correct in his info: you can take pred for up to 6 weeks on a tapering dose and stop - that gives plenty of time for even the slower responders to show an effect. But you can also take any dose for up to 10 days and stop immediately without having to taper at all.
I'm glad it worked for you - you are the first I have come across to say it works for the PMR itself. Others say it helps them in general but not the PMR pain.
Well experiment worked - if CBD oil helped you, then most likely you don't have PMR. In my experience CBD does not do anything for PMR pain/stiffness, but it will help you relax and sleep better.
Have to agree with the other responses, doens't sound like what you had was PMR, only say that because I have done a lot of experiments with CBD and combination of THC and best I could get as results was slight assistance with pain/inflammation, but still had to remain on the prednisone or I wouldn't be able to move. Thanks for your letter though, I like everyone else on this forum would certainly try anything to assist getting off of the prednisone.
There does seem to be a sort of reactive version - you get the symptoms after a trigger illness/trauma/vaccination for example - which resolves after a couple of months at most. Who knows.
Hi that’s wonderful that you feel better. Can you tell me which brand of CBD oil. There are so many bad ones out there. Thank you and keep up the great work
Remember that because something works for one person it may not work for others. This is really the first person on the forum to report a beneficial effect in PMR - and it had to be said. it may not be the PMR we talk about
I have no idea - I doubt anyone has ever studied it properly to be honest.
However, it is suggested by some that the opposite is true: CBD oil inhibits an enzyme that is part of the mechanism by which pred is broken down and excreted from the body. That would result in a HIGHER blood level of pred and so increased effects - both the desired and the adverse effects. In that way it could work as a so-called steroid sparer and allow you to get the same pred effect from a lower dose. But it hasn't been studied in trials and nothing is yet known as to what doses are required or safe.
Hello thank you for reply positive reply. The CBD Oil I use is 'BetterYou' - CBD Daily Oral Spray.
My comment was in no way meant as a challenge to any existing treatment. If it helps others and encourages more research then good. I appreciate it may be one of many factors at work. Presumably if I haven't got PMR but something akin to it then others may be the same and it may help them. Anyway - more research is needed.
