Don't panic!

Reminded of Cpl Jones from Dad's Army here today. Local chemist has run out of hand sanitising gel and a few people have been seen wearing face masks after two doctors who were working at our local (Worthing) hospital A&E were diagnosed with the Coronavirus - or Covid19 as it is newly named. The hospital is remaining open, which I take as an encouraging sign, though I have to say I'm quite glad that a cold prevented me from going there for a blood test yesterday. Last week it was half a world away, now on my doorstep. Shall have to go shopping tomorrow but after that will probably hunker down and await developments. Wish us luck!

Hi Maria

It must be unsettling when it’s close, l spoke to a Member yesterday who’s in Brighton & she was fine until someone started sneezing on the bus!

I need a blood test this week & plan to go at lunchtime, l think an elegantly draped scarf & gloves might be rédiger.......

I suggested a mask with a scarf over it for my son who travels on the train, he just said ‘Muuumm!’

It is concerning though & don't forget Hand Washing for 20seconds when you arrive home, use Gel when you’re out n about.

Keep Safe 🙏🏼

Thanks for your advice. I had the hand washing in mind as my grandson is coming to stay with me next week (half term) and his idea of hand washing is somewhat rudimentary, to say the least. I did manage to get the sanitising gel at a small local shop so hopefully he will use that.

I tried the elegantly draped scarf effect this morning but the wind had other ideas!

They did a test on the twinstitute on tele the other day Xand and Chris van Tuleken. Hand washing versus Anti Bac gel. Hand washing for 20 second won. But I think I’d use both 😷🤮

It’s quite well documented especially in hospitals, we always wash our hands when we get home. The old hand wipes & Gel are great when you’re out n about.

Finally diagnosed with pernicious anaemia last autumn when I was literally at the point of no return. 3 iron infusions later feeling better, I am so relieved.

It's fair to say that had two bad injuries to my legs last year and on both occasions bled copiously and I don't think they took that into account when they were testing last summer. My wonderful Rheumy took it on himself to get me the diagnosis and treatment, otherwise I wouldn't be here now. Doctors' surgery - well the less said about them the better.

Will have to have the infusions here and there for the rest of my natural, but that's no bother!

How's you?

I know exactly how you feel ..... Im just outside of Brighton, and much as I try not to think about it, I take the usual care and hygiene precautions it does concern me. I have just had 2 courses of antibiotics for URTI, and could not get better, took me about 8 weeks .... just feel a bit vulnerable when I hear someone coughing or sneezing generally .... time will tell I guess.

Keep well everyone :)

Wash your hands. Wash your hands.

I get your concern. Must be scary for it to be so close to home. Hand washing has never been so important.

I also live near Worthing but - for the time being! - won't be wearing a mask ... and beware of the scarf. If you do get sneezed on, even with ordinary virus spray, you will carry the germs in the scarf and bring it into your home for onward transmission. Hand washing is useful, as always; the gels often have some alcohol content so I replace that with an occasional glass of Bushmills!!

I can’t concur always carry a hip flask in case of emergency.

My best to you all. A friend flew to Florida last Sunday and told me several people in the airports and on the planes were wearing masks.
