Antiviral treatment

Following my recent post, I had a phone call yesterday morning from a doctor at our local hospital to assess my need for the treatment. Yes, I needed it but unfortunately the tablets were not suitable because of an existing medication so I needed the infusion. Unfortunately, they had no more appointments yesterday and they don’t do the treatment at the weekend - and by Monday it would be Day 7 which is really later than recommended. She said she would try to organise another slot and, just after lunch she rang to say there was a slot at 3.15. The appointment took a total of about a couple of hours but the actual infusion took 30 minutes. The nurses were so lovely and really put my mind at rest. I then had to wait another half hour just to check for any reaction. Pleased to say I was fine - but absolutely exhausted by the time I got home! I wasn’t well enough to drive myself so getting taxis was an experience! Anyway, it’s now done so I hope I start to feel better soon.

Thank you for the support and advice from here - as many of us say, I would be lost without all you lovely people x

I'm not surprised you were exhausted yesterday and I guess you are still feeling the effects so take it easy and do as little as possible. Pleased to hear that the actual experience was made more comfortable as a result of the nurses' care.

The system does work - except no-one told Covid it has to time its infection so weekends aren't involved. Jeremy Hunt needs to hear that - he was the one who claimed the NHS didn't work at the w/e at a time when it very definitely did!!!

The NHS definitely did not work at weekends when I had my first hip op in 2017. I don’t know if things have got better, worse or stayed the same!

Doubt they sent you home on Friday night to return on Monday? And the orthopods would have been doing emergency surgery on Sat and Sunday. That's working at the weekend. Did YOU work 7 days a week with no day off? If you want 7 day a week full staffing levels, you need 40% more staff.

The physios etc had the weekend off. There was no A&E at the hospital so no emergencies. It was like the Marie Celeste at weekends, no receptionists even. I am not sure anything has actually changed for a while. The NHS have set up the GPs’ contract to work weekends and until 8pm on weekdays. Probably will be a disaster.

How are you feeling now? Hopefully better and no side effects?

Thank you for asking. I feel a lot better but very shaky - not sure whether it’s the Covid or the infusion. Still testing positive so I can’t expect to feel totally better.

Glad you’re feeling better and hopefully the shakiness will go soon. Not sure if it could be covid or something else so maybe contact 111 to check if it doesn’t get better?
